"Spartan", I said to my spouse as we entered our 11th floor apartment, "The hire-purchase people have repossessed the furniture". A modicum of later thought showed the furniture to be about the motel normal, it was the kitchen/lounge which was so large. Certainly, said furniture was low cost stuff such as a builder would buy in bulk cheaply for a condominium development then sell at high cost to the condo buyer - but hey, we were here only for 2 nights and buying nothing.
Apartments here are privately owned with Oaks management acting for those owners wishing to earn by renting. We had booked through Entertainment Book at $175.50 p.n. Parking is $18 p.n., not the $15 quoted by EB, which was OK by us as no way would we leave the rented wheels in the street overnight.
As said the lounge and kitchen were spacious. Bedroom was OK, bed comfortable and all clean. Bathroom was very good and with the best shower we had met on this trip to Australia. All the normal complimentary items were there as they were also in the kitchen - including a dishwasher and clothes washer/dryer machine.
Big surprise next morning when an attractive housekeeper person appeared at the door to "do us" for the day. We had no idea the apartment was serviced. Great stuff.
Coles store and Glenelg main drag are a short walk away as is the beach. All very convenient and filled with exercise walking between the kitchen and dining table.
Some reviewers have commented on access. Given that the main entrance is clearly not at the building front one doesn't need to be an Einstein to realise it must be at the back. Yes, there is only one parking spot while checking-in but if you are in there that's all that matters.
You will, yes WILL, become unstuck when searching for your designated park spot for space numbering was clearly completed by an apprentice building designer on the first day on the job after leaving kindy. Take it from us that when you have reached the end wall of 4-floors underground, below water level, you will have passed your space - maybe more than once. Reception will give you a chart - read it word for word before going through the gate or waving the gate/lift zapper at the thingy which will, hopefully let you proceed to the next step in the parking exercise. Owners belt around parking floors like they own the place and your car will be in danger of becoming scrap metal.
Gripes:
1. The silly dining chair design which makes it difficult to lift them with one hand.
2. Combustible foam settee/armchair. (Fire hazards)
3. Step-up to the balcony - which means a fall back into the lounge as the step-up will be forgotten.
4. The balcony door fly screen which repeatedly falls into the room when touched.
5. The wonderful display in the balcony flower trough. Totally weeds - but what a display but not a single weed-flower?
Delights:
That most of the complaints in previous reviews didn't come to pass. I even waited until the credit card entry appeared on my statement to see what had been deducted from the $150 bond due to some felony created on our part. Nothing except the correct parking fee. Great.
Management obviously didn't find that we had loaded the dishwasher but failed to press the start button on closing the apartment door. Perhaps the lovely housekeeper person pressed it for us but if not, and if you are the next tenant in 1122, sorry for our omission and the dirty dishes.
Room Tip: Don't expect Oaks signage. This building comprises private residences so is not a hotel or simil...
