We recently stayed one night in one of the little beach huts at the Cape Hillsborough nature resort. The ‘resort’ is really nice, right on the beach with its own swimming pool and a friendly vibe.
Our hut was quite run down. Simple and outdated is one thing, you’re in a beach hut after all, but ours was not very clean. I can cope with cobwebs and was expecting a few ants (although there were several hundred marching across the floor) but the sink plughole was covered in mould, the curtains were filthy and stained, there were hairs in the shower, dust everywhere and the toilet smelt.
Thankfully the bedding was clean, the bed was fairly comfortable and the cabin was air conditioned so we got a good night sleep. There was also a fridge which came in useful.
We were just steps away from the beach so stumbled out of bed at 5.30am to see a lone kangaroo posing for pictures. If we’d known he’d come and sunbathe outside our cabin for the rest of the morning we’d have had a lie in!
As other reviewers have said, the shop only sells limited provisions and there are very few shops or cafes in the immediate vicinity so take as much food as you can. There’s a small general store in Seaforth about 5km away, and we stopped at the Old Tea Station on the way in to Cape Hillsborough for tea and scones which we’d definitely recommend! Apart from that, there’s not much around.
I really liked the campsite so would go back if we were in the area – I’d probably take a tent next time though. That, or a bottle of bleach and a bit of Exit Mould.
