“Old fashioned Beach Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We have stayed here a couple of times over the past few years and have enjoyed each one. We stay in one of the beach huts, which are a bit dated but clean and comfortable only metres from the beach. Free BBQ's are available and the huts have cooking facilities, fridge etc. The walks around the Resort are a good way to see coastal Queensland-the mangrove boardwalk is excellent. We found the staff always friendly and helpful. Will stay again and reccommed to our friends. Not five star but good value and unique.

“Lovely resort but take a tent!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

We recently stayed one night in one of the little beach huts at the Cape Hillsborough nature resort. The ‘resort’ is really nice, right on the beach with its own swimming pool and a friendly vibe.

Our hut was quite run down. Simple and outdated is one thing, you’re in a beach hut after all, but ours was not very clean. I can cope with cobwebs and was expecting a few ants (although there were several hundred marching across the floor) but the sink plughole was covered in mould, the curtains were filthy and stained, there were hairs in the shower, dust everywhere and the toilet smelt.

Thankfully the bedding was clean, the bed was fairly comfortable and the cabin was air conditioned so we got a good night sleep. There was also a fridge which came in useful.

We were just steps away from the beach so stumbled out of bed at 5.30am to see a lone kangaroo posing for pictures. If we’d known he’d come and sunbathe outside our cabin for the rest of the morning we’d have had a lie in!

As other reviewers have said, the shop only sells limited provisions and there are very few shops or cafes in the immediate vicinity so take as much food as you can. There’s a small general store in Seaforth about 5km away, and we stopped at the Old Tea Station on the way in to Cape Hillsborough for tea and scones which we’d definitely recommend! Apart from that, there’s not much around.

I really liked the campsite so would go back if we were in the area – I’d probably take a tent next time though. That, or a bottle of bleach and a bit of Exit Mould.

“Lovely quiet location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

We stayed here for just one night on our trip down to Brisbane. The fisherman huts are very basic and a little dated but in a strange way this added to the charm of the place. Be sure to bring your own food as there is very little here and it is quite a distance from anywhere.
The scenery is lovely and the wildlife on your doorstep great. I would recommend here as it is like stepping back in time but don't expect any luxury just nature and quiet time and Mobile phones do not get any reception.
The walk up to see the turtles is a must as is a beautiful walk.

“"A beautiful, wild location"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Cape Hillsborough is a lovely place. We were unlucky to be here during a patch of bad weather but still really enjoyed it and could see it would absolutely stunning in the sunshine. (We were disappointed not to see the kangaroos on the beach but they had probably all been blown away!!) The accommodation is fairly basic but quite spacious. Do bring your own food and drink, though - the shop is very poorly stocked.
We are rating our stay as "excellent" based mostly on the beautiful location.

“Magical setting....shame about the accomodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

We stayed in a beach front cabin en route to the Whitsundays. The Resort is slightly off the beaten track but definitely worth the detour off the Bruce Highway! We awoke early the first morning for a stroll on the beach a stones throw away from our cabin. We were delighted to see kangeroos frolicking on the beach, they put on quite a display (see pic!) and didn't seem to mind us being there at all! There is an array of wildlife including possums wandering around the cabins at night...all very exciting for my five year old and the adults too! There are a couple of lovely signposted walks through the rain forest leading to secluded coves and taking in spectacular views. The beach is very atmospheric, particularly at sunrise, very special. I would certainly rate this place 10/10 were it not for the dated accomodation, the cabins are stuck in a time warp in dire need of upgrade. There didn't seem to be many staff around taking care of the place. There is a small shop stocking very basic provisions, my advise would be to take food etc with you.

Room Tip: Take a tent!
