Stayed at this motel for two nights whilst doing a training course in Mackay. It should be noted this city in central Queensland is the centre of a significant mining boom area and at the moment very few hotels in the area have any vacancies. This place was also full for the two days I was there. Set by a small water feature (a lake I think) and as a result my room was full of mosquitoes and other flying "bugs". Room was average size, bed was hard although I did sleep pretty well. There is a seperate shower / toilet and a small refrigerator that is stocked with drinks. The motel also has a bar / restaurant that looks pretty good although I did not eat there. The course I undertook at the motel was catered by their kitchen and to be honest the lunch both days was very good. I suggest the restaurant would be as good ???
Motel has a pool and the rooms are either ground floor or one floor up.
This motel was opened in 2007 and the plaque on the wall states it was assessed as a four star property. It was also noted that this accreditation on lasts for two years (in fine print on the plaque). It needs to be reassessed, I doubt it would rate a four star property now.
No real negatives comments on this place but its not anything to rave about. I suggest the management need to look at a few minor issues. The first is this is a non-smoking motel but my room did have that faint smokers stench (covered up with a hint of cheap motel room deoderiser). The entry doors to each room share a common foyer type arrangement with the adjoining unit. The result is excessive noise. This was noted by another reviewer on this site. Not a lot that can be done about this, its just a woeful design. The only real negative was a significant build-up of mould in the shower cubicle. Anything in the shower near the water outlet is mould stained. The cleaners need to get a bit (perhaps lots) of bleech to fix the problem. Tea / coffee making equipment in the rooms and the free WI-FI internet is a real bonus. It was a significant point of applause, well done windmill. A final comment, I am really critical of poor service now a day. The service here was OK but motel staff in general at many establishments just dont go out of their way to be cheerful and friendly. Its a problem specific to Australia at the moment (in my opinion). The tourism industry here want Australian people to stay home and spend money but they need to look at this issue or people will continue to go overseas...!
Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor unit.
