“Don't believe all the negative reviews”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I was worried when I read the reviews after I booked here but figured it was only for 1 night to break up the trip from cairns. From the moment we arrived I was pleasantly surprised.

Check in was easy and we were offered a complimentary soft drink, water or beer - a welcome relief after a long hot drive.

The room was clean and much bigger than the room we had at Tropic Coast down the road. Heaps of austar channels and a nice big flat screen tv.

Unfortunately the restaurant was closed but we had room service and the food was exceptionally good.

If you're tossing up between Tropic Coast and here, stay here. Much better value and no mould on the ceiling

“Qld travelling hard with mining boom”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

Mackay is hard to get accom so I booked a week in advance got this on wotif but still cost $130 per night. Clean, Comfortable, friendly but just a bed and shower. If that's what you want for a break from travelling, as we did, you will be satisfied.

“Watch the pubic hair in bed sheets!”

Service was good but
Not impressed at all at finding hair in beds and bathroom that wasn't ours.

“Not for the light sleeper.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2011

I have stayed at this motel several times and have to say there are too many negatives to give this one a good rating.

If you are a light sleeper, do not expect much sleep while here.. This motel is located right under the main flight path, so aircraft big and small are flying over at all hours at very low altitude.

Each time I have stayed here it has been with early check in after all night travel, each time I have been woken by management mowing the lawn, housekeeping talking loud and yelling across the way to each other right outside my door, both these examples showing lack of respect for those who are therento sleep during the day (one stay maybe udersandable, but every visit is a bit too much of a routine.

There is also a major ant problem in all rooms.. I have brought this to their attention a couple of times, nothing shown to be done about it.. If you stay here and have a laptop or something do not be surprised if you leave it out to have many ants roaming around and inside it when you wake up.

Another negative is that they offer wifi, however they cap the speed their end (playing dumb as if they did not one they did that) so with full bar wifi connection you will be surfing alike the days of owning a 56k modem (and worse) paying a not so cheap charge for the service to find you can not get to websites without errors and timeouts .. I even tried the wifi right outside where the ariel is located to prove the settings their end finding it to be painfully slow.

The rooms are ok, the beds are comfortable and being on a main road the traffic noise is hardly noticeable, so there are positives associated with this motel, however not enough to be able to be able to overlook all the negatives (I have not listed all).

“My Feet Stuck to the Floor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2011

We sheltered here on the way from Brisbane to Cairns, seeking a bit of much needed shut-eye in the middle of an intense storm. I had to call multiple times before getting an answer and the man who I spoke with was not the least bit concerned about taking a booking. We arrived at the hotel at the time I had given over the phone only to find the office vacant. After another several calls and a 20 minute wait, the manager arrived and was obviously put out to book us in for the night. When I enquired if we would be able to get the rate advertised on Wotif, or if I would need to book it through the Wotif site using my iPhone I was glad there was no gun stashed behind the counter, as I'm relatively sure I would have been shot. There was no discussion about amenities or the features of the room -- just "check out is at 11" and in response to my query about breakfast, "there are places around."

The room was filthy. It was dank and musty, and if we hadn't been so tired we would have gone to find other accommodation. My partner even suggested that we might get better sleep if we slept in the car. The bed was hard, the pillows were flat and stank of body odour. The fixtures in the bathroom were cracked and the toilet looked clean enough but was *not* in good condition. Only the fact that we were exhausted from a big day of travel lulled us into a restless slumber, and as soon as day broke we were out the door and on our way. Despite the storm that night, I couldn't help but worry about the bicycles we had mounted on the back of the car -- there had been sketchy looking guests and a stray dog roaming around in the car park while we had waited for the manager, making the place seem more like an abandoned warehouse than four star accommodation.

Terrible service, and a disgusting room. My best advice: find someplace else.
