“Clean, comfortable, affordable, terrible service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

Very neat, clean & new rooms. New & clean facilities. Nice Pool. Very spacious room with all the necessities.

There was a girl at reception who was kind and generous always bearing a smile. But there was a man with a French accent, it might have been a bad day for him, but he was very rude, snobby & pretentious. He would rarely look us in the eye, never smiled, and seemed as though he couldn't have cared less for our custom.

We had a two bedroom apartment with two TVs, they were both placed oddly right up against the ceiling. I am guessing it was to avoid breakage, but it was most annoying and they were very hard to view. A waste of a TV. It was extra cost for internet $12 for 3hrs (unbelievable) & extra cost for DVD player $12 for 1 night.

Overall a good hotel but only after a string of even worse hotels.

“Great! Clean, comfortable with friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2010

We are thoroughly enjoying our stay at Coral Cay. I was a bit concerned after reading some reviews about it but it has totally surpassed our expectations. Our room is spacious, clean and comfortable. The bed has good quality linen and is very comfortable. The air con is quiet and powerful (a necessity!!) and we have a balcony overlooking (the great) pool.
It's walking distance from the town centre and the Canelands Shopping Mall.
We booked it through a discount website and paid $150 per night. It is well worth this money - we have stayed in other places for the same money that have been nowhere near the standard of Coral Cay!

“Comfortable - but surcharges for Amex / Diners”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2010

I stayed with colleagues at the Coral Cay earlier this week for one night prior to taking an early morning flight. The Coral Cay is a well presented hotel along the Nebo Road motel strip. Check in was friendly and efficient, and my room was modern and comfortable, with a well stocked mini bar.

We chose to eat at the Mackay Marina (a $25 taxi ride from the hotel) where there was a selection of restaurants, and came back to the hotel for a drink. The waiter service was excellent. We checked out in the evening, as we had to leave the hotel at 5.30AM, and their reception doesn't open until after this time.

Undercover car parking is supplied in front of each unit, and the hotel features a swimming pool and a restaurant.

Unfortunately this hotel has introduced credit card surcharges for Amex / Diners cards. I find it deplorable while hotels can enjoy more benefits of credit card use than most other industries (booking guarantees, pre-authorisations, charging for no-shows, charging for late charges, avoiding large cash transactions), the industry has been one of the most bullish industries in Australia to introduce credit card surcharges. It also makes it misleading when comparing prices between different hotels. I go out of my way to avoid providing repeat business to hotels who surcharge, which will cause me to look elsewhere next time I travel through Mackay rather than simply rebooking at this hotel, especially given the large number of hotels in Mackay.

“All that I needed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2009

I stayed here for work - it was a new room and very clean.

The room was a little smelly due to the new paint and woke with a headache the next morning.

The internet connection didnt work which was a pain & the cooked b'fast was average but I could not complain 2 much!

Worth staying at, but would not recommend for a week stay.

“Best Restaurant in Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2009

The Restaurant at the Coral Cay is the best restaurant in Mackay by far. The wine is reasonably priced and the meals always excellent. Superb Steaks! The room service has been a let down at times so always book a table in the restaurant. The staff are friendly and helpful. I travel to Mackay regularly and always try to stay at the Coral Cay
