Brilliant location in the heart of everything. Lots of shops and places to eat nearby and the beach is just across the road. A couple of little service glitches that I didn't like - after buying wifi access for an hour I spent a frustrating 15 minutes in the room trying to make it work - after ringing downstairs I was given a rundown of the "blo@dy" contract they'd taken over and that guests usually use the restaurant because it sometimes doesn't work in the rooms - now could I not have been told this when purchasing? I also overheard a gentleman at reception asking for a trolley to bring his family's bags down only to be told guests had taken them to their rooms the night before so there were none available - ok fine so far but where was the "if you like we can ring you or bring one to you if any are returned soon?". It may not have suited him but come on think of your customers people. I was still there when a trolley was returned a couple of minutes later. Anyway the rest of the service for me and hubby was great.

We had a 2 bedroom executive room booked which was fantastic. A few days before our booking we were called and informed that the airconditioning wasnt working, and that we had a choice to stay another night instead or receive some compensation. As we had to attend a function that night and coolangatta was very busy we had no choice but to stay. Fortunately it wasnt too hot, just a little sticky as theres no ceiling fans.

what was disapointing though, is the compensation offered was a buffet breakfast - continental only (valued at 10.00 per person, the full buffet is 14.95 per person). however when we arrived downstairs we were dismayed to find there was next to no food left.. at only 9am on a sunday morning! the chef had started to cook some additional food however we didnt have that much time before checkout so we headed across the road for a fabulous ten dollar full breakfast from the cafe their. My friend also observed fruit flies floating in the top of the small amount of orange juice left.Oaks have no offered to reimburse us the value of the breakfasts, however as its prepaid this will take 6 weeks! recption staff were adequate but didnt go out of their way to make us feel welcome.

overall the hotel is in a great location, lovely pool and reasonably priced - i'd give them another go, but definitely skip the breakfast - head to the cafe across the road, better value for money and much nicer fresher food!

We stayed recently in Coolangatta to relax and check out the beaches! We booked late and stayed in one of the one bedroom units in the Oaks Calypso, facing the hinterland and shops. The resort is a low rise complex and you can access the beachfront via the pool area. The units facing the pool would give you a view of the beach and of course the pool area itself.
There are a variety of restaurants close by and as well as the cafe in the complex. It offers meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a bar area. We had the Sunday roast buffet and had a hearty meal. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. Many families were staying during this busy New Year season and were well catered for with the pool slides and shade. The local surf clubs provide great food at reasonable prices at their food outlets as well as (most importantly) their invaluable surf patrols. We visited the hinterland - both Mt Tamborine and Springbrook= the rainforest was amazing and a haven from the rush on the beach strip. Seek out the Natural Bridge and take a walk on many of the well marked trails. Many young students work hard to pay for their Uni fees at this time so if you receive good service and you have a few spare dollars don't be shy to tip them! The Coolangatta hotel was a great place on New years Eve- fireworks and great atmosphere. Remember you are on holidays and take time to wind down and enjoy a beautiful part of Oz!
Well priced and good value. Book early as this is one hectic time on the Gold Coast. But fun!!

We had 4 nights at the Calypso and found that the access to beach and restaurants was great. Every interaction we had with staff, was very good including quick check in and check out. We were however disappointed that the website promised "every room has ocean views" and all we got was the adjoining carpark. The helpful staff relocated us, but with a view of the shopping precinct, not the ocean. We were disappointed that there was no cleaning or replenishment of tea, coffee, soap etc during our four night stay, and we were disappointed at the cleanliness of the room. The web site showed nice bedroom treatments etc, but all we had was a filthy and stained doona, covered with a sheet that had holes in it (because it was summer we just put this in the cupboard out of sight - it was not something we would use or ask anyone else to use). We got a terrible surprise when we went to use the chopping board - it had been used and stored face down without being cleaned and caused a terrible smell in the room. I guess these things made us more critical of the dirty curtains, fridge and so forth as well. The web site we booked through was very misleading and we were very disappointed to have spent over $200 a night on a room of this quality. Even the usual compendium of information about what was available at the hotel was missing.

The helpful staff are very much let down by this substandard facility.
