On arriving we were pleasantly surprised by the quaint rooms positioned along the beautiful wooden verandah. Unfortunately the verandah is incredible noisy when anyone walks along it, and unluckily for us there was a hens party group staying on the night we were there who were making an incredible noise until after midnight. The rooms were cosy but very basic, dated and incredibly over priced - more than $200 a night! The tariff included breakfast at the award winning Shakey tables restaurant, which was again in dire need of a make over and the food for breakfast was all 'serve yourself' as per any standard motel breakfast buffet, but with an even more limited selection. There was not even a menu for cooked eggs, only a bucket of cold hard boiled eggs. For $200 in the overpriced accomodation we expected more, especially since their write up insinuated that you'd be treated to breakfast in the award winning restaurant.

We have been to the Hunter Country Lodge on several occasions in the past few years. We haven't always stayed at the Lodge but we ALWAYS eat at the restaurant. We have returned with different friends and relatives each time and always received the same interesting food and excellent service. Simon's willingness to share not only his knowledge of wine and spirits, especially single malts, but also a tasting or two, always makes us feel like we are dining with family. Nothing ever seems like too much trouble.
The rooms aren't flash. Who cares? They are clean, cosy and have hot showers and comfortable beds, and the verandah is the perfect spot for a pre-dinner drink.

My husband and i stayed for 2 nights and were very disappointed with the accomodation.It was a rustic type setting but the room was old and outdated. The shakey tables restaurant is a contemporary style setting with a very different menu.Breakfast was average as several guests had to ask for the hot food to be topped up on arrival. We paid a lot of money for our 2 night stay and expected much better.Would not stay here again.....

As part of a small group of friends we used this as a base for a Hunter Valley weekend and had dinner in the Shakey Tables Restaurant on Saturday nigtht. Our cabin/motel style rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable, the bathrooms a good size and while a bit dated in style, perfectly satisfactory. Extra pillows and plenty of towels and toiletries were provided. It was a lovely setting overlooking the vineyard and adjacent wooded area; sufficiently far off the road to be blissfully peaceful and we enjoyed a celebratory sundowner drink on the balcony. But the highlight was the exquisite food in the delightful Shakey Tables restaurant on site: beautifully presented, delicious cuisine of the highest standard, a wine list which included the vineyard's own very good wine. There was good service from friendly, competent accommodating staff. The accomodation/dinner package was excellent value and included breakfast. We will go back.
