“Great location with great restaurants & Cafes”

My partner and I stayed just for the one night during our business trip in Canberra. We found our room very comfortable, clean and spacious. It was great value for money and conveniently located in the suburb of Kingston which offered a lovely selection of high quality restaurants and cafes. The surrounding is quiet, private and leafy. A good place to stay.

Room Tip: ask for the corporate rate if you are on business, they sometimes up-grade you to a bigger room.

This was our second stay at the York and we love it. It is the only place we wish to stay at now when we are in Canberra. It is in a great location to get to all that Canberra has to offer and the apartments are welcoming, clean and very spacious and include all that you could need. Beds are very comfortable and apartments cater for hot and cold weather. The staff are very friendly and booking the apartments is easy and fuss free. It is across the road from some delightful restaurants, cafes, takeaways and a supermarket, so whatever options you want in the line of food, they are all there (even delivery to the apartments by some if you don't want to go out). We highly recommend these apartments for a couple or a family as we have been here as both. We have stayed in so many different types of accomodation over the last 20 years, in cities, resorts and country and rate these apartments right up there with the best of them. We just like the comforts of home when we travel so the York provides these for us and thats why we love it and we'll be back again.

Room Tip: Ring them. When you talk to the staff when booking they let you know everything you need to know.

My partner and I recently stayed in Canberra for a friends wedding - We had never visited Canberra before and we were in awe of how green and lovely it was.

I am glad we chose to stay in kingston because it was like a little village with great cafes and reataurants ( artespresso, silo and idelic).

The gardens at the hotel were beautiful and the staff were always pleasant and greeted us warmly each time we walked past them, they always gave us good tips on where to go and eat which made a huge difference to our stay as we honestly did not know where to go, they really helped us to have an enjoyable time in Canberra + the bonus of the wedding.

The room we stayed in was a studio which was large open plan room, it was bright and airy, it looked out over the tree tops, we loved the bed ( we are fussy sleepers so that was important) Other great bonus we had free internet and security parking. Great place to stay small and intimate, it felt like a home away from home.

We loved our stay and know we love Canberra and look forward to our next visit, hopefully with more time to do and see more.

Room Tip: Friendly staff just ask super helpful

“Great Location, Decore and Staff”

I Came to Canberra to See an exhibition at the Beaver Galleries with my partner and also pop into the New Museum, Australian Galleries etc. The York was a perfect location for all of these things; we were even able to walk to the Australian Gallery.
Even though on the main street of Kingston the clever design of the York enables you to have the best of both worlds; close to Restaurants, Shops and Attractions yet you feel like you’re staying in a quiet sanctuary. The Garden is Devine and the whole place had a nice relaxing feel about it.
The Beds were also comfortable and you could tell this is a Hotel that updates its amenities and décor regularly. The Staff were friendly and helpful with things such as where to go to eat and directions etc. I look forward to my next stay at The York!

“Looks are certainly deceiving, nice on the outside, drab on the inside...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2011

Stayed for two nights recently and was disappointed with what we got for the price we paid. We stayed in a Deluxe Suite at $225 a night. (I wouldn't call it "Deluxe"....) On top of that they charge $50 to have a portcot set up for a baby or child. I chose this Hotel thinking it would be ideal for a family stay, and it was good because it had a bath and a kitchen which suited our travel needs with a small baby. I didn't check any reviews beforehand, which might have been a mistake but I can therefore give an unbiased review.
The outside of the Hotel certainly presents well, but I did not realise that there was no lift (we have a small baby), and also no staff to help with bags, etc.
The room we had was dark, carpet was frayed and the tiles in the bathroom had mould in the grout, we also couldn't locate the remote control for the split system heating.
Apart from that, the bed was comfy, and the kitchen well appointed with cutlery & cooking utensils. In agreeance with other reviewers I did notice the noise, but it came mostly from other guests arriving/departing and the echo from the stairwell and doors opening and closing.
I think I would only stay again if there was nothing else available.
