We were supposed to stay for 2 nights. It was so bad, we only stayed for one and would have left immediately, but the town was booked and nothing else was available.
The room reeked of cigarette smoke, although it was a no-smoking room. We called the front desk, but were informed the hotel was completely filled and we could not change rooms. The room was small and crowded, the bathroom tinier than on a cruise ship. Many things in the room did not work and they always sent a kid (16-17 years old) to fix things. The young lad was pleasant and tried hard, but couldn't fix all that was needed. The rest of the hotel staff was completely incompetant and uncaring. We tried to settle in for a good night’s rest for our trip to Milford Sound the next day. "Tried" is the operative word, here. It was Horrible!!!! My daughter’s bed smelled like vomit. Apparently it was in the mattress from a previous guest. My bed smelled like sweat. And the bathroom was filled with a urine odor emanating from the drain in the floor. Needless to say, we checked out early in the morning. It was preferrable to drive to Milford Sound for the day, and then make the 4-6 hour drive from Milford to Queenstown instead of spending another night in this disgusting hotel. I guess there are so many people from all over the world passing through, that repeat business nor customer satisfaction are of any priority to them. At $331.00 per night, I was shocked and dismayed at the horrendous accomodations. What an dump!

Stayed there as most other options were sold out and it came recommended by the ISITE people as the best place in town.

It was NASTY! The rooms were smelly and did not seem too clean and the restaurant looked pretty worn out.

Internet is payable by coins.

The hotel logo and internet fooled us - it is much prettier than the hotel itself. But, the location is very nice with view of the lake.

Will rather stay at any BB or motel.

Titan Hitours chose this hotel for us as it is a good standard and close to the town centre for shops and restaurants. It is also a better base for the day excursion to Milford Sound than the more usual trips from Queenstown. It enables the coaches to be on the road well before the others without an unnecessarily early start.

The hotel is situated just across a very quiet road from the lake front and has rooms facing either the lake or its large garden. Our large room faced the garden, but as we were only there 2 nights it mattered little. The reception area was rather dull and uninviting although the staff were (as usual in NZ) very friendly and helpful.

Our room was comfortable and well equipped with the usual 2 king size beds, table and chairs, TV, tea tray, minibar (to keep your own drinks cold as well) and a decent size bathroom with bath. The room was without air conditioning (which was unnecessary in November). Although it seemed a little dated, it suited our tastes fine.

This was the first town on our tour in which we were not only warned about the infamous biting sand-flies, but actually encountered them and were glad of our insect repellent. Unfortunately someone had misguidedly left the garden windows open and our first 10 minutes in the room was spent killing off invading sand flies after closing the windows. It is unfortunate for those who like fresh air, that there was no mesh over the openings.

After an exploratory tour round the town centre all of 5 minutes walk, we checked out the hotel restaurants and thought they were rather expensive by comparison, and also the priciest dinner and breakfast of our whole tour in similar standard hotels. We therefore, like virtually the whole of out tour group, ate out and cannot comment on the restaurant standard.

Overall we had a comfortable stay at this hotel and found no reason not to recommend it.

Good value, lovely rooms. We stayed two nights in a standard room and two nights in a villa (little cottages around their garden). It was quiet and secluded, but also a block away from all of the tour info centers, shops, and cafes in town. They took great care of us!

The pros: great location, large size rooms with the ammenities you'd expect (although many things (e.g. hair dryer) were old and outdated

The cons: very dated decor in the public areas, not a warm or friendly vibe, seriously indifferent staff (see below)

The incident: We discovered early in the evening that the hot water wasn't working in our rooms. After repeated calls to the front desk and no resolution we ended up having to go to the front desk to ask to be moved to a room with water. We finally were moved at 10pm. There was no apology offered.

The other member of our party stayed in their room assuming the hot water would be restored in the morning. It wasn't. Again, we had to ask the hotel staff to provide us with a room with working water.

When we checked out there was no apology and we had to ask for a discounted rate, which was offered very begrudgingly. The staff couldn't have cared less.

Bottom line: I'd only stay here if all other hotels in Te Anau are booked. It's just not worth it!
