“Little paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

To be in this hotel was really a succes. It was an excellent election and we were lucky to have the opportunity to be at George's house. The building is very peculiar and the rooms and common areas of the hotel very nice as well but the best was, by far, George and his particular way to make you feel at home. Good recommendations all the time about every respect we asked,we felt surrounded by good mood and hospitality. Nothing could be better when you are so far away from home.

The once convent, that the host George had moved to his land, was a very peaceful and charming place to stay. He and his staff are excellent hosts. A very comfortable guest Lounge

“Charming!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed at the Te Anau Lodge for two nights in November, 2011, drawn primarily by its history as a convent. The true charm of this place, however, is the host, George. The rooms are small, but comfortable; the hospitality is large and warm. A guest lounge, complete with wine, coffee, tea, and muffins, provided a wonderful place for us to relax with our son and daughter-in-law who were with us on this trip. When we wanted to dine in two separate locations one evening, George even loaned our son his car. How often does that happen???Breakfast was plentiful, made to order if you wished, and served in the former chapel. If you want the place you stay to be part of the experience of your trip, Te Anau Lodge is it.

Room Tip: This was a former convent so be aware the rooms are small (at least the ones we had). Nonetheless, t...

“Awesome place, hospitality and host!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

My husband and friends stayed at this B & B for only one night-much too short! George, the host, and his staff do a wonderful job. The lodge itself is so lovely and interesting, being a convent in a previous life. It is set on a lovely property that is so well maintained. You will feel so at home when you stay here-the views are spectacular! overall an outstanding experience-I wish i could have stayed much longer!

“A quality B & B - something different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We only stayed one night on our self-drive holiday in New Zealand. We stayed in Te Anau having left Queenstown and wanting accommodation handy to Manipouri where we were taking a Doubtful Sound cruise. Te Anau is a charming small town with a number of interesting restaurants and Te Anau Lodge is equally charming and interesting. It is situated just off the main road leading to Milford Sound - 3 minutes by car or 15 minutes on foot from the town.

We were warmly welcomed by George and Ben, the Labrador, and shown the Lodge and our room which was comfortable, clean, with all that we needed for a one night stay but rather small. The views from the Lodge are tremendous fearturing the lake and the mountains. The small chapel in the gardens is delightful and adds to the special nature of the Lodge.

Te Anau Lodge offers its guests a well furnished and comfortable lounge with complementary wine, soft drinks, beer, coffee and tea. It has a library stocked with a great number of interesting publications. The lounge serves as a social area for the guests to mix and chat. Breakfast in the morning was cooked by George and was above the average but not excellent. George himself is incredibly helpful and genial - a great host.

We enjoyed the lodge and would recommend it strongly.
