“A surprising jewel in Te Anau...”

My wife and I recently spent 11 days touring the South Island of New Zealand. We had a wonderful time in Queenstown, and looked forward to cursing the Milford Sound. The 4 hour drive to the Sound, followed by a 4 hour drive back to Queenstown, seemed less than attractive, so we elected to spend the night in Te Anua. We are definitely glad we did... we chose the Fiordland Lodge and it was a wonderful experience. The Manager, Andy Cunningham, greeted us warmly and with great personalized service. The luxury accommodations are warm and inviting, with plenty of room, and wonderful lake and mountain views. The lodge was warm, welcoming, and relaxing. The food exceptional and the canapés and bar service were excellent. While watching the beautiful sunset, we were mesmerized by the sight of the sheep and deer also returning to their accommodations from a busy day grazing on the lush local grasses. The entrance is a little hard to see at first, but I definitely recommend staying a night, or two or three at the Fiordland Lodge, a wonderful and completely unexpected surprise!!... not to be confused with Fiordland National Park lodge which offers comfortable accommodations more for backpackers...

This is an amazing place, and every minute longer you spend there, the more you appreciate the location, lodge, staff and food. There is a natural ease about the lodge, and you get to value the tranquil beauty of the place.
Nothing was a problem, the food was AMAZING! Andy - the manager (on super short notice....i.e I walked to the front desk, and 10 minutes later I could be going on a helicopter to to the Dusky Doubtful - aka Doubtful Sounds) was brilliant, arranged for us to go on this trip and it was stunning.

“Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Spent Christmas 2011 here and was a fantastic experience. Friendly staff, exceptional service and exquisite food.

Room Tip: All rooms overlook the lake but top floor rooms enjoy a slightly better view.

“Magnificent!!!”

We stayed here for our last nights in NZ and wow, what a place. The lodge is overlooking lake Te Anau and has great views. We arrived on a very cold afternoon (it was snowing) and when we got into our room, our living room area had a fire place which was roaring!!! Went down for a pre-dinner drink in the lounge which was very pleasant. A huge fire place with very comfortable sofas and chairs around. Dinner was delicious! The next morning we left very early to go kayaking on milford sound, and they had left us breakfast in our room as well as a lunch box for the day which was the envy of everyone else on the kayaking tour! The place is pricey, but the service, food and rooms are truly 5-star and well worth every dollar. It was a great last stay of our amazing trip to NZ!

“Stunning views and first class service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

The lodge is in the most beautiful location - very private, quiet - and the most stunning views of the lake and mountains, even in the rain! The staff were very pleasant and helpful - we would especially like to mention Monique. The food is exquisite and dining is a real gourmet experience - well done James. We stayed in one of the cabins which was very private, roomy and well furnished but did not have the views. Also I felt that the bed could have been better - it was only a queen size and quite soft and springy. They may be better in the main lodge - we did look at a room on arrival and were offered one (not available at the time of booking) and they certainly looked very nice. We would definitely highly recommend the lodge and look forward to returning.

Room Tip: I would pick the upper level rooms in the main lodge. The cabins are very private and away from the...
