“Fabulous views, accomodation and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at Peppers Beacon and will continue to go back. We stayed at Christmas time and were quite suprised that Queenstown was reasonably quiet. My family of 4 adults enjoyed a high floor 2 bedroom apartment with unobstructed lake views. Fabulous balcony with seating outside made chill out time even more special. Was very good for drying washing as well.
All amenities in the apartment are excellent. We ate in most evenings and was able to cook as we do at home. The washing machine worked well so all our washing was done and dry when we left!
We stayed in the back block which meant a little longer walk to exit the complex by foot but no problem at all. Parking is first in and we never had a problem with it. Access to the gondola or out of town can be made via the high roads thereby avoiding the traffic of the town. Very handy.
Bedding and bathrooms were excellent as was housekeeping.
We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment. It had a beautiful stretch of super comfortable lounge, gas fire which would have been superb in winter, large 6 seater dining table and heavy drapes to keep out the light (or cold) in the morning.
The only issue was the wi-fi. We managed to pay for a hotspot subscription (not provided by the venue but a different providor) but this was slow and intermittent and we found that only one of our wifi enabled appliances could be on at a time. There is fast wifiin the foyer but this is not very convenient. I do feel that for this rate of tarriff there should be fast and stable wifi provided. This would be my only critisism. They are apparently working on it but the buildings' set up is the problem I believe.
Ask for the back block which is quieter than the front which we stayed in formerly. Street traffic affects the front block.
All in all, we would stay again as we enjoy being able to walk 7 minutes into the town along the lakeshore. It is level and safe.

Room Tip: Ask for back block, high floor, unobstructed view of lake.

“How about that view?”

Stayed here over the Christmas and I have to say very much enjoyed it. The Staff are friendly and pleasant, its in an excellent location with perhaps the best view of Lake Wakatipu, and the fresh bread upon arrival is a very nice touch, especially after travelling over night from Australia.

Room Tip: Go for a suite on the 4th floor, they come with a jacuzzi.

“Fantastic once we upgraded to a larger suite!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We booked for a 4 day break in Queenstown to escape the Melbourne heat. It was a deal that was booked a few months prior for a great price.

Unfortunately, we ended up having to shorten our trip due to a wedding ... and was not able to change the booking as it was booked through another agency; however, when I asked ... the staff at Peppers offered us free daily breakfast as we had to forfeit one night of accommodation. This gesture was very much appreciated by both my fiance and myself.

Breakfast was simple, 4 choices of warm food (baked beans, hash brown, tomato, bacon) every morning as well as the usual toast, cereal and coffee, etc. We liked it.

Our original room was a very small entry level room. It was very noisy as it was right next to the car-park doors which slammed quite loud every-time it closed. It also felt very stuffy, as there is no air-conditioning. (They do offer you a portable fan should you require one).We Chose to keep the windows open for fresh air.
The only part of our original room that we liked was the bathroom as it was very modern and clean + the view!

We requested an upgrade the following morning and for a fee, we were given a good deal for a junior suite. It was fantastic! We were blown away by the modern layout as well as the view! It was quiet and a HUGE difference to our original room which was on the 4th floor. I guess you get what you pay for.

There was a bit of mis-communication with the staff and we ended up missing out on our last day's breakfast because there were no notes made by the staff who upgraded for us re: free breakfast .... we ran out of time to argue that point as had to catch an early flight out.

Location is very good, Great views even from our dismal room originally. Even though we drove everywhere, walking would have sufficed.

I must say .. overall ... all the staff at Peppers were very friendly and warm and helpful. Perhaps a little more training in making notes re: reasons for room change and carry through what was said to guests?

Regardless, we enjoyed our time there.
We would stay there again for sure! This time in a suite!

Room Tip: Stay away from the level where the top car-park is ... and if you can't help that .... try to av...

“Zip-king beds were a let-down, but convenient hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I cannot normally stand staying on a Stella/Mantra property.

This hotel was very close to town, appeared to have been clean, and (but for an inconsiderate guest vomiting in the lift) was enjoyable. The view from the room was incredible!

They use zip-king beds.

If you need Internet access while away, do not rely on this hotel's extortionate charges. It was cheaper to buy a prepaid 3G Vodafone SIM, regardless of how much you need to use it.

“A fantastic little gem of a hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

My wife and I stayed here during our trip through New Zealand. It's located just 5 minutes walking distance from the town center, so getting anywhere was not a problem at all.

The room was very clean. Strong shower and effective heating. The staff was extremely professional and so so nice. They really went out of their way to help us with anything we required.

Best of all - free guest laundry machines (4 washers and dryers in total). This was a real value to us since we were in the middle of our month-long trip and had a chance to wash some clothes.

Overall - stay at this hotel! You won't be disappointed!
