OK, let's get the bad bits out of the way.
No off street parking (I had arranged, when booking, to park at the sister YHA a kilometer away, but they were full too), but there's several hours available overnight on the street and a car park building across the road.
Lots of stairs up to the kitchen area, not so great if you're lugging lots of food around with you.
Neither of these will affect every traveller, so won't bother everyone.
However, we opted to change rooms to get one with a lake view. Big mistake. The room was absolutely fine in every way, except for the noise from the street... and we were there over a weekend, and had continual interruptions from noisy yahooing pedestrians. (The other noises didn't phase us at all). So... stay in the middle of the building and hang out in the kitchen/dining for the fabulous view from there!!!
Otherwise, all good. It's an old hotel and perfectly adequate in every other way, and plonk in the middle of all that you do want from Queenstown (which we did need, once the car was "parked up" safely.
Room Tip: I'd suggest middle rooms, not near either street!
