“Lovely Hotel, Friendly Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I stayed here for 3 nights over New Year 2011/2012.
I stayed in a standard room on the ground floor with 2 other girls.
The room we were in was set up as a twin with an additional put up bed. I found that this didn't compromise the space; we had plenty of space and the beds were very comfortable.
The bathroom was a bit on the small size and the shower didn't have great pressue but this didn't bother me. It had a good temperate and kept it while 3 girls showered - impressive.
There was a kettle in the room with tea bags and coffee etc. Fridge was available for use along with iron and ironing board.

I ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night and the food was good. I had a Chicken Snitzel with chips, peas and gravy; for $15 I didn't complain. It was conveinient and quick. The bar staff were very friendly and would have a conversation with you.

The hotel wasn't far from the centre of Queenstown - a 7 minute bus ride, that cost $5 return. Or if you wanted to walk it, it would take 15 minutes into town - downhill - and 30 minutes back - up hill.
The hotel looked over the lake which was beautiful.
The reception staff were very helpful and always knew the answer to any question I had. I used the laundry facilites, $3 for the washer and $2 for the dryer. Reception also sold sachets of washing powder for $2 so that you wouldn't have to buy a big box from the supermarket. You could also get internet access from the reception, the hotel used global gossip so you could either top up or but a new card. $2 for 15 minutes.

Overall I loved Queenstown and found the hotel amazing. I wouldn't hesitate to book to stay here again!!

Thank you very much for taking the time to put your review on Tirp Advisor

Our Courtyard standard rooms are 28 square meters so they are spacious and with three beds there is still ample space to move which you found for yourselves which is great. We have spent alot of money on the water system in this area so it is great to hear that this is working satisfactory and as you say ... impressive with 3 x girls in the room!

We strive to ensure we have price sensative meals with value for $$, the Chicken Snitzel is one of the extra items that we have on special at times which is one of the favourites.

The Laundry gets alot of use and for Queenstown it is an absolutley vital part of the service offered as guests tend to be in Queenstown a bit longer than some other regions and clothes do tend to get dirty here especially with all the amazing activities that we have here in our wonderful region.

Great to hear that your expectations were met and you found the staff helpful and friendly. We have a relatively small staff number and this almost like a family atmosphere.

Queenstown and the Tanoa Aspen Hotel Queenstown looks forward to you and your friends coming back to visit!

Kind Regards

“Wouldn't stay here again if you paid me!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

DONT stay in one of the two bedroom apartments, These would struggle to get a 2 star rating. Not only was it dirty but it was tatty to say the least. there was a broken chair, ashtray on the balcony was full of cigarette buts. the table in the sitting room had a hole in it which was full of grime. The furniture was filthy as was the cooker, fridge and cutlery drawer!! and the best of all..... the clock radio was wired directly into the mains behind a socket!!! not only dangerous but highly illegal! These units are NOT 3 1/2 Star!! Apparently these apartments are rented by the Hotel from private owners, therefore they are not responsible for thier condition. Shame on you Tanoa Aspen Hotel,

Room Tip: Don't book an apartment!!!!

Thanks for taking the time to put your response up on Trip Advisor.

As the apartments are in our management pool we are totally responsible for these and it would appear that there has been a communication breakdown when this was relayed to you.

The apartment and furniture been sub-standard in cleanliness and a broken chair is not up to our standard and this has been rectified with a deep cleaning program for all of our apartments and the on going maintenance program to ensure issues are fixed in a timely manner so our guests are not disadvantaged in any way.

I am aware that you were offered an alternative accommodation option as well as extra cleaning of the apartment, and you were also compensated for your stay when you brought your issues to our Duty Manager.

It is also common practise that Hotels "hard wire" items such as clock radios to ensure that these items are not removed by our guests.

Thank you for your feedback whilst you were here and this has been taken on board and rectifeid.

Kind Regards
Fiona Williams

I am glad that you enjoyed the upgrade to one of Deluxe Lake View rooms.

They have unbridaled views overlooking Lake Wakatipu and the colours in the rooms work well with the fabulous vistas over the Wakatipu basin

“Would not stay here again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

This would be the worst hotel that I have stayed in ever! My wife and I stayed here as part of our South Island holiday between Christmas and New Year 2011. We stayed for 2 nights and it was 2 nights too long! We booked it off the internet and it is the old story of tarting up an old lady which the website does very well. Check in was relatively easy and that is where the good finished!

The twin courtyard room was very tardy with paint and wallpaper off in several places. The bathroom was dirty and also needed a good going over.
The service given to us on the 3 times we used the restaurant was the poorest I had ever come across. On the first morning our breakfast was cold and as a lover of mushrooms they were very disappointing. I am not sure why you would even serve cold dried out mushrooms to someone! I was so wild that my wife suggested that I did not speak to anyone as I might of made a scene! I would not of gone back the 2nd morning for breakfast if it was not part of the room rate. We waited to be seated and when none of the staff showed interest we seated ourselves. After some time and after we had helped ourselves to the continental breakfast, I asked for assistance not once but twice from the 2 staff members standing around behind the bar area who did not appear interested in assisting us. I did not bother with the cooked breakfast, but my wife did. She ordered (when eventually served) the Eggs Benedict which did not come as described on the menu - it came with cooked ham instead of bacon and was on a muffin that looked very like the 50 cent packaged muffins from the local supermarket. On the Friday night - we decided to use the restaurant and chose the $12 Fish and Chips. Even this they could not get right - it was a very poor standard as well!!!!

On the first day we were there, our room was not serviced which we were told when we returned at about 7pm that night was because they were very busy. Hardly our problem I thought!!!

Yes the view from the restaurant is good but this was ruined by extremely poor service and sub standard food.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here!

We certainly have not even come close to meeting your expectations for your Chrsitmas trip to the South Island and Queenstown.

We strive to correct guest issues as and when they arise. it is easier to speak with the individual whilst they are here so the problems can be "ironed out", We have a Duty Manager on duty 24hours a day and they have all been trained to deal with issues, whether it is of a positive nature or from the negative comments that you have put onto Trip Advisor.

If you are able to email me with your contact details it would be appreciated so I can speak with you in regards to your stay with us.

“Great chance to listen to your neighbours all night!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

This hotel is up a long steep hill a fair distance from Queenstown centre. The room was a little bit grubby and (as seems to be the problem in a lot of New Zealand hotel rooms) the adjoining doors are paper thin. We were treated to an hour long conversation between two of our neighbours at about 2am. We also like to take morning runs on holiday and wouldn't recommend this as a start point, unless you fancy a mid-holiday heart attack trying to run back up the hill to your room.
(There is a good view from the hotel gardens, and a select handful of rooms)

Due to our location and the superb views that we are able to offer showcasing the Wakatipu basin we are 2.5kms from town and up a hill.

Running can be a joy but I am fairly sure you would have to be very fit to run up this hill but I trust you enjoyed the walk up.

Not all of our rooms have unbridaled views overlooking Lake Wakatipu but 70% of our rooms do have some view of the mountain ranges or overlooking the lake.

Due to the very busy summer season we have been having we will be able to get into the rooms to give them a spruce up with deep cleaning or paint which ever is more appropriate for the individual room.
