Haven't been hostelling for forty years - if this is an example of how things have changed - count me in!

Stayed in Millhouse. Basic, plenty of room, great value so close to town and mountaining biking for the gondola or dirt jumps at Gorge Road. Super MTB friendly, great bbq area and pizza place. Friendly and helpful staff. Higly recomended if you are in Queenstown for mountain biking on a budget.

I stayed for 3 nights at the Pinewood Lodge. It is not one of the party hostels at the city centre (so you don’t risk having a drunk teenager puking on you during the night). But that also means that you need to carry your bags for a good 15 mins (half of it uphill) from the bus stop to the hostel.

The dorms are a bit dated and when I was there, the ‘hub’ (where apparently there is a café) was not working so there were not many opportunities to socialize. Nevertheless, the place is reasonably clean and the facilities (kitchen and the unisex bathroom) were adequate. I would stay there again.
