Matakauri Lodge is simply spectacular. The service is exceptional, dining is sumptuous, the location is fantastic. The lodge sits above Lake Wakatipu, with views toward dramatic mountains. If you can afford it, I wholeheartedly recommend staying here.

I had the great pleasure of visiting all three of the amazing lodges
in the Robertson group as part of the magical 9 day New Zealand Experience...the
gorgeous lodges of Kauri Cliffs, Cape Kidnappers and Matakauri. All
very unique, each with a different feel, with one unifying theme called
excellence. If you are thinking of NZ and want to do it right, this is
the way to go! Although, be warned, you will probably want to extend
your stay, so get an open ended ticket. The golf courses at Kauri
Cliffs and "The Cape" are a golfers dream...just spectacular with
views to match. The staff, the food, the service, the accommodations,
the individual spas all as good as I have ever experienced. You
immediately felt like you were at home! Everyone was always so
accommodating and no request went unfulfilled. The culinary team(s)
can handle any request. In fact, when you were first greeted at each
property, you were asked if you had any dietary concerns. One of the many
nice touches at each lodge.
Don't forget to visit the 900 year old Kauri Tree at Kauri Cliffs, or
visit the Gannet colony at the Cape, or do the helicopter tour of
Queenstown at Matakauri....just for starters. There are so many things
to do, even if you are not a golfer!

The setting, accomodations, food, spa and restaurant at Matakauri are beyond comparison. With all of the activities to do and beautiful sites that Queenstown has to offer, it was still hard to motivate to leave the grounds of this fabulous resort. Matakauri is one of the world's finest resorts and made for one of the best vacations we have ever taken.

Spending 2 nights at MataKauri lodge was quite simply one of the most magical experiences my girlfriend and I have ever had. While pricy; the food, accommodation and experience all made the stay worthwhile.

The food was on par with any 3 hat restaurant we have visited in New Zealand or Australia. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, in particular Michael. We were actually the first guests to stay in the hotel since the renovations, and all staff members ensured it was as special for us as it was for them.

The surroundings are spectacular, and the well designed lodge exploits this tremendously. Overall an amazing stay, and we will definitely be back!
