“A homely and well-managed alternative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This hotel/hostel is conveniently close to the centre of town and the bus route to and from the airport. The older rooms are small but warm and comfortable. The place is also quiet and thus a very welcome alternative to hostel accommodation. The shared bathrooms are a bit ancient, but clean and reliable. I stayed in the lodge for a total of 14 nights in 2011 and never had to wait for bathroom facilities. A basic kitchen is available in the common room. The left luggage service is also very secure and reliable. The free continental breakfasts were always substantial. All of these features make it an excellent base for backpacking in and out of Queenstown. The management and staff have always been friendly, obliging and generous. Recommended.

“A good night's sleep but the Lodge could use some maintenance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

The Comfort Inn Melbourne Lodge in Queenstown is conveniently located just a few blocks from the heavy-duty tourism of downtown. Beware that these few blocks are a bit of a climb coming from downtown back to the Lodge.

Our room was large, with a king sized bed and two twins. It included a small refrigerator and hot water pot with tea, instant coffee and hot chocolate. The bathroom had a shower and no tub. Everything was clean and all the fixtures worked well. The facilities could use some maintenance: the carpeting in the hallway was buckled-up, the sink in the bathroom was cracked and there were chips in the paint on the wall. The simple key-operated door locks might not be sufficient for those worried about tight security. Those did not prevent us from having a pleasant, very quiet night's sleep.

Wireless internet is available for a fee and a fee-for-use computer is available in the lobby area. You can buy breakfast in their lounge/lobby area. A microwave oven is available there if you want to cook your own. This area was a bit untidy.

You have to climb some stairs to enter the Lodge and our room was on the second floor; there is no elevator.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, we could recommend the place to someone who wasn't looking for anything fancy.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a view of the gondola ride. You can watch para-gliders launch from there.

“Er.. it's okay! I guess!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We generally stay here the night before/after trekking. It's okay - VERY basic. It needs a massive overhaul and a new paint job. The reception staff probably need a customer service refresher course also (it's nice to look up from the computer when someone is standing at the desk!). But it fits our needs, particulary when travelling in larger groups!

Final word - the breakfast is a RIP off. Head down to town for breakfast!

“Highly Disappointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

While traveling down south we pre-booked online the "Comfort Inn Melbourne Motor Lodge" all did we know that we were in for a shock of our lives, upon viewing we were disgusted by the condition of the shabby old decor, broken banister on balcony and rude staff. After leaving we inspected another nearby hotel with the same price, 5 star, Sky, full kitchen and pleasant staff. We felt very ill going back to our 'room'. Upon suffering all night in the dirty environment and using the awful bathroom facilities, we decided to go to the communal kitchen to cook our breakfast adjacent to the TV lounge. We were gobsmacked upon entering to see the layout and condition of this facility, ragged couches, and dirty floor whilst walking around the couches I looked down to find a used condom. I quickly alerted the manager who promptly proceeded to the room and removed the item, we then asked for a refund and she replied "no problem, how soon can you leave?". We then replied "ASAP" We swiftly packed our bags and went to the previously viewed hotel and in doing so had a fantastic time. Thank you Scenic Hotels

Room Tip: Don't enter the front door.

“Run for the Hills”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

I cant believe the conditions in this hotel - the hotel rooms were disgusting. Stains on the doona, the carpets were not vaccuumed under the beds where there were crumbs, empty pill packets and a champagne cork. The room also had a blood stain on the wall, cob webs, the cups and glasses were not cleaned properly and generally poor cleaning. The garden spaces outside ground floor units were overgrown and in serious need of maintenance. One girl on reception was unfriendly and anything was too much effort. When we were leaving police had arrived because another guest was refusing to pay.
