We were very happy with this hotel, which we stayed in halfway through a trip around Otago and Southland. Having had to share a double bed in Queenstown, our teenagers were very happy to have a double sofabed each, while we had a queensized bed (plus a single) in a separate room. Spa bath, shower, dining table and chairs, kitchen equipped enough to cook two evening meals (microwave plus 4 hotplates, no conventional oven, but that's usual). We took advantage of the hotel's sauna, pool, spa and gymnasium. We had a hire car so the distance from the town centre was not an issue. Would definitely recommend to families.

The Ascot Park Hotel is located on the outskirts of Invercargill - a 5 minute drive from the centre - and is situated in its own park-like grounds. There is plenty of parking and there is a particular place handy to each room which makes it easy to transfer luggage from car to room and back. We were warmly welcomed by the reception staff who were friendly and helpful throughout our two night stay.

Our room was large, comfortable and clean with all the required facilities and amenities without being exceptional. The bar however was a star with friendly staff and a comfortable environment. We eat there both nights of our stay and enjoyed the food in a relaxed manner. Breakfast was average. We selected the reduced menu which is a good idea.

The hotel obviously is used for conferences and exhibitions and on our last morning there was a exhibition in prgress in the large lobby area which "fused" the electricity supply. Breakfast was served without much disruption in a "romantic" environment.

This hotel is good value for money. I doubt that there is much choice or better in Invercargill. The staff in particular are very welcoming and friendly.

The hotel room we stayed in was quite new. The hotel is a short drive away from the city centre. When I checked in, the front desk lady wasn't really friendly. I was waiting for quite sometime since she was talking on a phone for a long time. After almost 10mins waiting, another gentleman came and checked me in. She could have said "won't be long..", she didn't even look at me!

The hotel is located far from the centre of Invercargill in its own grounds. I received a warm welcome from the duty manager, who described the hotel facilities and showed me the restaurant, bar, and layout of the hotel on the way to the room, which was large, comfortable, and clean. The bar and restaurant were inviting and all the staff were friendly and attentive. The evening meal and breakfast were both very good. There was a clear focus on making guests feel welcome and comfortable and ensuring that their needs were met.
