“Dunedin Stop over”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Lovely self contained apartment with everything you need. The position in the city is perfect in allowing easy access to places like the Cadbury Factory, railway station and main centre of town.

Very clean and comfortable for couples travelling together. We had two adjoining rooms, both quite large, each with a nice family area and TV access and kitchenette. Independent toilets and bathrooms.

Booked on Wotif.com and got a reasonable price in comparison to other places we stayed on the south island.

“Clean tidy and close to town but a bit of banging”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I checked in after hours and was a bit put out not to get get a car park and be told to park on the street. Room was tidy and bigger than expected, bathroom was well provisioned. had two single beds, rather than a double or king that I am used to when travelling. Bed was comfortable enough. No airconditioning in the room and this was a bit of an issue with the mugginess. Police station next door - heard the telephone speaker announcements all night and day. The trouble with the room, 206, was that every time someone went out the exit to the floor lift and stairs, the fire door (?) to the two apartments (of which mine was one) and the room door banged against the lock and this is a bit of a problem if you are a light sleeper. Perhaps an adjustment in direction of the door might help to stop the closing draught doing this.

Room Tip: not room 206

“Unclean”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We were delighted with the location however the cleanliness left a lot to be desired, and we also found the check-in Receptionist not overly friendly and also giving us different information to that which we had been emailed.

With the previous occupants leftovers in the fridge, a pair of shoes in the wardrobe and a screwed up beer bottle label on the table the servicing had been done very poorly.

It was apparent that the dusting had not been done in a very long time on the top and screen of both TVs (one had numerous dirty finger marks on the screen surround), on the window ledges and under the fridge and dishwasher we a clear layer visible on all. The white net curtains on close examination had a line on the bottom of the same black grim on the window ledges.

When we complained we were offered a free nights accommodation, parking and breakfast which we declined as this is not somewhere we would want to stay again. We were also questioned about why we didn't raise these issues before we left but decided that these things could not be fixed and we didn't want to engage in this whilst on holiday.

We then wrote to the CEO of The Quest however after meeting with the property owners he informed us that he felt there were no issues.

“Good central loaction.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We chose this hotel mainly due to it's location. We booked a two bedroom unit, which was in fact a one bedroomed unit and an interconnecting studio apartment, which were connected via a small hallway, perfect for my husband & I, plus two teenagers. It was great to have some privacy and two bathrooms. The hotel is a very short walk into the town centre and the Cadbury chocolate factory is just round the corner. It's also close to a couple of supermarkets.
Our room overlooked the back of the police station which provided some interesting viewing. We stayed two nights, the first was very noisey and we were awoken a couple of times, but the second night was fine. The rooms were clean but a bit dreary. The receptionist was very curt and unhelpful.

“Chocolate and beer were nearby!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

Two traveling couples chose the property on a brief stop in Dunedin during a protracted drive around the South Island. The two-bedroom unit we found provided a great sleep, privacy and a washing machine!

We had read that the Cadbury chocolate factory tour was fun, and since we arrived at night, we didn't realize that the factory was practically directly across the street from the hotel. Very convenient. The factory tour really was good, by the way.

The humorous bonus is that we discovered the Speight's Brewery tour was only about a 10-minute walk away. The Speight's Alehouse was next to the brewery, and it provided a very good lunch and a fine sampler of beers.
