“Excellent Conference Location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I was tasked with planning a small conference in New Zealand for twenty-one people. We chose the Forrester Lodge in Dunedin and are SO GLAD we did!

The folks at the Forrester were very helpful to me, working with me to help simplify our budgeting for the conference. After months of planning, we arrived in Dunedin from the USA and set foot in the Lodge for the first time only two days before the conference was to begin -- and the Lodge met or exceeded our expectations in every way. The bedrooms are comfortable and nicely furnished. Towels, sheets and pillows were fresh and clean. The lodge is well-kept in every respect. Our meetings took place in their ample main meeting room, and the other lounge and rooms provided for private meetings during the conference.

The Forrester Lodge is in a good location. Although the lodge is a few miles from the "octagon", it is located a nice walk from the wonderful beach at South Dunedin where surfers are working the waves. We enjoyed walking up the street for dinner at one of the many local restaurants. Shopping was also an easy walk down the street to any of the area shops or shopping centers. The "Octagon" is also easily reached by bus (one of the many bus stops is right near the Forrester).

Although ours was a "business" trip, I would gladly return to the Forrester Lodge for a personal vacation. I would also heartily recommend Dunedin as a destination for your business meetings. We spent our afternoons "out and about" at Larnach Castle, the Taieri Gorge Railway, Olveston Manor, and the Cadbury Chocolate factory, to name a few of the attractions. We also enjoyed the historical nature of the Scottish city -- where else will you find yourself in the center of town admiring a statue of Robert Burns while a young sidewalk musician serenades you with his bagpipe?

Room Tip: Large suites are designed for families; while the regular ensuite rooms are perfect for couples.

“A great place to stay and excellent value for money.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2011

As a former hospital it does not look all that appealing from outside. Once inside however it immediately changes. Our ensuited one bedroom suite was roomy, well appointed comfortable and very clean.. The bed was great. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place.

“ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL PLACE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2010

This is my third stay at the Forrester Lodge, and as always it was a pleasurable stay. I keep coming back because the entire place is perfectly clean from top to bottom. That includes hallways, the shared facilitles, the rooms...everything. The hosts are so friendly and helpful! The decor inside is warm and modern. Great sized rooms. There is no doubt that this would be my choice of accommodation whenever I have the need or desire to stay in Dunedin.

“Comfortable motel, friendly hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2009

From the outside Forrester Lodge looks very unappealing. The fence looks like it should be enclosing a used car yard, and some large flower pots would not go astray! However, once inside it is a lovely place with two very friendly hosts. The room we were in, a twin, was spacious and light with ample storage and comfortable beds. The lounge are contained some very modern lounges and a decent sized TV, with large windows all around. The Lodge is a converted maternity hospital and the conversion has been well done (in comparison with a converted old persons' home we stayed in later in Invercargill). Breakfast was not included in our tariff but that did not phase us as Dunedin is full of cafes and restaurants.
