We stayed in Jan for 5 nights with our 5 year old in the Ibis Christchurch and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is centrally located behind Cathedral Square. The rooms are clean and beds very comfortable. Value wise, it was exceptional because we booked our room during the Accor Hotel 50% special.
The only complaint we have is parking. There is a carpark downstairs but whether parking is available depends on who you speak to at reception! It is not advertised as being available but if you turn up and there is a space, you will most likely be allowed to park there for a fee. However we had been told a number of differing stories so it was easier to just park at the parking station around the corner.

We stayed at the Ibis following 11 hour overnight flight from Tokyo nd en route to Dunedin. The hotel is close to Cathedral Square and the main shopping and business districts. Room was large and spotlessly clean and a bed big enough for a chorus line to sleep in! Service was discreet and efficient. The hotel was also a short walk from the Botanical Gardens, which even if you are not a 'green fingers', were a great way to unwind following the flight. The Dahlia display was particulalry impressive. Christchurch is not known as the garden city for nothing. Following a recommendation from a local in the All Blacks shop we ate out at the excellent 'Dux-de-Lux (review to follow). I have always been a bit wary of hotel chains but the Ibis changed a lot of preconceptions.
