This hotel is stated to be 4 star and it delivered that. Room I had was not large, but was adequate and with contemporary furnishings. Very very clean - nothing negative to say - well maybe the mirror in the bathroom could de-mist more quickly if I was being very picky.

Enjoyed the restaurant breakfasts - dinner was not great.

Would be good to have free internet access at the computers supplied by the hotel.

Good to have parking provided, although I did hit my head on the wood panelling in the stairwell to the carpark - and got a great big bruise. It was my fault, but still a little dangerous.

This hotel has a tiny reception area that is always packed and so it is hard to get help if needed. Car Parking is free for guests you just need to get a ticket. Rooms are quite plain and basic, large but with a pretty small double bed. There is a guest laundry and it is cheap to do your own washing. The walls are very thin so take ear plugs as it is a really noisy hotel. A 5 minute walk from the main city centre.

  • Liked — not much
  • Disliked — it cost more than the langham in Auckland and was not even in the same league

Management response from Parrant, Hotel Manager
(Management representative)
20 May 2008
Thank you for filling out the questionaire on Tripadvisor, its great to get comments good or bad, so changes can be made. Most of your comments were directed at the decor and building structure. We went through a 5.5 Million dollar refurbishment in 2003 which has kept very well, we are very different from the Langham Hotel in Auckland which is a 5 star boutique Hotel, and the best Hotel in NZ. We thank you for your comments and will discuss your concerns amongst the management ,of the direction we need to take over the next few years.

Regards
Paul Parrant

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights after a tour end 2007 & enjoyed the stay very much. Good location across the road from casino & a central park so very quiet from my 6th floor. Only a few minutes walk to Cathedral Square & free bus circuit stops across the road.

Room was clean and comfy, with modern bathroom. Coin laundry available.

Breakfast was fantastic. Had a discount breakfast voucher but the range, the restaurant staff & surrounds was excellent.
Efficient check in & check out.

Only downside was the sauna was turned off & needed a key for the spa, otherwise a positive recommendation all around.

We had our first two nights here after landing from the UK and we couldn't have asked for a better hotel. Check-in was smooth and our request for a high floor was honoured. They were extremly helpful at reception. The room was a king, more space than two people needed, with a great view over Christchurch. It was clean and quiet with a most comfortable bed.
The location was great away from the hussle and bussle yet everything was on your doorstep.

We only stayed here one night but would have liked longer. We had a hire car of which the hotel parked for us at no extra charge. The reception are was nice and staff helpfull. Our room was a nice size, comfortable and nice bathroom all very clean. We had a good view from our window overlooking a park area. The hotel is only a few minutes walk to the shopping and tourist area.
