Reception was friendly and helpful. For the same price as a standard, we were given a deluxe room on the phone (no early booking), so off to a good start from the beginning.
The rooms were the biggest we've experienced from our travel- 4 rooms in total; bedroom, kitchen, lounge and bathroom. Brochures and discounts for the Antarctic Centre and souvenir shops etc were placed above the heater in the lounge room, which was a nice touch and convenient. The kitchen was large and well-equipped (see pics). Bathroom was also very nice, with several recesses in the shower stall to hold toiletries. There's also a nice bathroom heater, but the problem is that it times out in 2-3 min, which makes it sort of useless. Also, the bathroom's sliding door doesn't close properly, leaving a ~5 cm gap, but there's another sliding door leading to the lounge that can be shut for more privacy. The lounge room is large and very comfortable. Only thing is that the TV is not the clearest, but OK. Pictures were too dark and the remote control is not as responsive as it could be. Other than these things, we had everything we needed from the room, including a hairdryer and ironing stuff.
The motel is a few streets away from the city centre- definitely walkable, but for those less/average fit, you do wonder "how much longer to go?" once or twice.
There's a small deli across the street, to the right of the motel, which seems convenient.
I can certainly understand why Alexandra Court is so highly rated- it's a motel, not a hotel, and should be rated accordingly. We didn't find the decor and equipment that outdated. Other than wishing that it was just a tad closer to the city centre, it is a superb place to stay.
