“nice facilities, service could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

this nomads hostel is probably one of the better nomads hostels i've stayed in.good things are that the facilities are relatively clean and modern. each bed space has a charger, locker and space to hang your towels which was a nice touch. bathrooms are also very clean. the location is pretty central.

the service was so-so. they didn't know any other way of getting to the ferry than on their 7am shuttle bus, not much use if you are getting a later ferry and basically just told me to go and find out by myself if i didn't want to use the shuttle. anyway. turns out there is a shuttle from the railway station. i do feel information like this is something that hostels should know about. the kitchen is also tiny. thankfully i didn't have to cook cos they provide a free snack sized meal each night which you can upgrade to a bigger potion for £2.

for one night this place is ok but i wouldn't have wanted to stay longer. also i got a cheap online deal and might have been disappointed if i'd paid full price which is £28 i think.

“Private rooms great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

I splurged on a double en-suite room for just myself and it was just like a regular hotel room with a double bed, bedside tables, a radio, flat screen TV and en-suite washroom and shower. For all the rooms, though, the kitchen is really small and there is only a few places to hang out in the lounge area.

“convenient yet small beds/ elevator”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

It's location is very convenience especially when you want something to eat. It is also right next to Cuba Street which is one of the main street in Wellington. The staffs were excellent helping me in changing rooms, letting us stay in a 4 beds dorm by ourselves and giving directions. The room generally is quite small with a tiny mirror. It's window is facing other dorms which is like 3 metres away so you could see what other people are doing in the other rooms. The bed is quite small as well. The shower is nice & hot. The most annoying thing I found about this hostel is you need to open all the doors, elevator & turn on the lights with your card (It ll be annoying when you move your luggage around). The elevator is small & there is only one meaning it stops at every level (there r 3 levels). Overall its not too bad as I only stayed for a night.

“not the best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

stayed here for 5 nights, got upgraded from an 8 bed to a 6 bed which was good!
we then realised none of the plug sockets in the room (or floor) worked, thankfully within a few hours reception had sorted the problem and it didnt happen again!
One of the bunks in our room was broken and was leaning, even one of the staff said it was unsafe and they wouldnt put anyone in that bed..they then tried to check in a further 3 people for that bed while we were there!
the bunks are really high and if one person moves the whole bed shakes!
they do have lockers and hooks in the room which are always useful!
bathrooms - we had shared facilities, they were clean, but could have done with a bigger bin for handtowels as it would often overflow and one of the showers needed unblocking
the common area is ok, kitchen is a bit small (seems to be a running theme for nomads!)
the staff were all lovely, very helpful and friendly - except for one, although their attitude changed towards the end of our stay
location is good - not far for the cable car or museum and the shuttle for the ferry picks you up from just over the road
the bar next door is nice, the free meals were ok (what you would expect!), two of my friends had the steak off the main menu and enjoyed it (you get 20% off!) and as a nomads guest you get cheaper drinks and the staff are nice

“Excellent!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

I stumbled on Nomads as my last Hostel on a week worth of hopping from Hostel to Hostel because of the world cup and it was by far the best of the bunch.
Staff were really friendly and helpful and always ready for a chat or to ask you how your day went, despite it being such a large hassle they went out of their way to remember your name. The rec room in the Hostel is very social and shows a great variety of Movies on the flat screen TV
The rooms weren't the cleaniest but considering how many people were in the dorms it was as good as can be expected.
Free meal in the bar was the icing on the cake for this Hostel, not a massive portion but you get the opportunity to upgrade and cant complian as it was FREE!
All in all a fantastic Hostel to meet people who are travelling and looking for work amazing value!

Room Tip: The 10 bed Dorm is cheap for a reason only book if you sleep through a tornado.
