“Ok for ferry - that's all.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

We stayed 2 nights, Saturday (final of rugby 7s) & Sunday. Chose location so we could get to ferry easily on a Monday morning: ferry is 6.5km away, easy drive.
Reception was friendly on arrival, gave us milk & cookies, but did not show us to our room (as had been the case at previous motels we'd stayed at). Had to park where we could, & had a 30m walk in the rain to our room (room 301, I think).

On site restaurant & bar - didn't use as we sent out/had our own supplies. Thought both we re overpriced.

Room was most expensive of our trip: the cashed in on it being a weekend/rugby 7s etc etc. Definitely not worth it, but as said, chose so we didn't have to negotiate Monday morning rush hour across/through the city.

Room: had 1 double & 1 single bed, 1 very uncomfortable armchair, 3 dining chairs, 1 dining table. Seemed dull & dowdy, but as it rained all the time we were there, & couldn't even see across the lawn, maybe that was just our perception. No wardrobe - just a hanging rail inside main door.

Kitchenette: bit dated but sufficient for our needs (ie cereals/sandwich making). New-ish microwave, old kettle & ancient toaster.

Bathroom: stainless steel shower base that moved when we shifted weight. Floors & walls dripped condensation after use - probably due to it being so cold & wet outside. Towels did not dry out overnight, so we went against our normal reuse practice & put all 4 in for laundry. Toilet roll was 1-ply & was in a 2-roll dispenser. Fell to pieces when initially pulled.

Wifi: purchased in reception NZ$4 (can't remember how long for or what Mb download), but signal was good & quick.

Managed to park outside our room when we returned on the Sunday (1 of 3 places for 10 or 12 rooms).

The morning we left, the sun shone & we were able to see houses on hills above the motel, & a village in the valley: capital Gateway certainly looked better in the sun!

Probably wouldn't stay there again.

“Convenient stopover for travelling to South Island.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2011

Comfortable base located by main road into city. We did not use the car whilst in Wellington as there was a bus stop by the driveway which we used to go into city centre. Convenient 10 minutes drive to the Interislander ferry. Was in Wellington over Rugby 7's weekend, crowded but fun.

“Location is convenient - that is all”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2011

This campervan park is actually the car park of a motel on the northern outskirts of the city. Adjacent to the motorway and under the flight path for the airport (no flights at night), there are some 30 tarmacked parking spaces behind the motel. Each site has power but there is only one water point adjacent to the dump. Cooking facilities are good although they hope you will use the slightly expensive motel restaurant. There are not enough showers (2 per gender) and (1 toilet per gender) to cater for a full car park although you can use those in reception (100m+ away). There is a lawn with a couple of outside benches for children to run around on. But -it is a very short drive from either ferry terminal – around 10 minutes. There is a bus stop outside the motel and it takes 35 minutes on the frequent bus service to get down town (parking can be hard in the city). There is a large supermarket a few minutes drive away together with other shops. Good speed internet is available in the hotel reception. This is the closest site to the city other than a potentially noisy quayside site in a car park in the city centre. Its convenience outweighs its faults although you would not want to stay here long.

“Glad we only stayed one night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2011

Out of all the motels we stayed in this was our least favourite. The staff at reception took a while to acknowledge my arrival and when they did it was very matter of fact and not particularly welcoming. They did not show us to our room as all other motel owners had, but this was not a big problem. The room itself was clean, but very dated and poorly furnished in comparison to all other motels we had stayed in - particularly the bathroom. I can't believe it has a four star rating. The room was big, but long and thin and therefore very dark and dismal. There was not much useful information in the room about the surrounding area - all other motels had given us details of local places to eat, this one only gave us a menu for their own restaurant, which I suppose is fair enough. The area - we discovererd on our one trip out to find food was pretty dismal too - but perhaps we turned the wrong way out of the motel. Fine for a one night stop over, but we would have been disappointed if we had stayed there for more than one night!

“Perfect for the ferrys - friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2010

We were in a backpacker van and this place was the cheapest in the vacinity, plus it is 5 minutes from the ferrys.
It is true that it is just a carpark, with a small litchen and and few showers and toilets but there is amble time to get that all done. It does provide a kitchen service and power, and the reception staff were very friendly.
You can also use the net for a small cost - its not perfect but its a welcome change from the Top 10 monopoly in the area - cheaper and easier.
