“Surprisingly good”

My colleague and I ended up staying here for one night after being stranded in Wellington by flight cancellations. It was the closest hotel to the city we could get and having just stayed at the James Cook Hotel we were expecting this place to be grotty. What a pleasant surprise! Checking in was a breeze with the staff person being friendly and efficient - even asked if we would like trim or full fat milk! The unit was upstairs and there is no elevator. Not a problem for us but some people may want to request a ground floor unit if stairs are a problem. We had a two bedroom unit which was very clean and comfortable. There was one bed in the downstairs area along with a kitchen, shower, toilet. Upstairs on a mezzanine was a bedroom and another bathroom. There were ranch sliders in the lounge area that opened onto a balcony that went the length of the building. It overlooked the motorway but didn't really notice too much road noise. We went into the bar for a drink and a snack - prompt service, friendly atmosphere - very small but there is another lounge and dining room available that are larger. Check out the next morning was also easy and we both felt happy with our unplanned stay there. About 15 mins by car into the city so not too far out if you want somewhere reasonably priced to stay and still get good service and comfortable accommodation.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor unit if stairs are a problem.

“Poor for campervans”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011 via mobile

We stayed one night and were glad it was only one. The site for campervans/motorhomes is simply a carpark with powered sites very close together and serviced by only a couple of showers and toilets.

Location is ok for a bus to the centre but next to noisy motorway. If you want convience for Wellington then go to the Waterfront park in the centre or if you want a good camp site like so many others in NZ then look elsewhere!

“Not what was expected”

Units were not as good as pictured on website. Very cold, uninviting rooms. Only 2 little heaters that dont heat nothing! Being In Wellington, you need proper heating. Microwave, stove hobbs and electric blanket did not work! However, good showers! No wifi in units.

“Excellen Conference Venue - Great Staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

What a great place for a small business meeitng or conference. Great Staff and Judy was sooooo asommodating throughout all my emails and phonecalls and just amazing to us on arrival and throughout our stay. We arrived and kitchen was closed, they still cooked for us. I was poured an extra large wine as tired and so happy to arrive and was tired! Thank you! The next morning we were made hot drinks in the lounge, even though it was not open for service :) Work went well, lovely lunch feedback positive, and great location away form hustle and bustle of city centre. Handy with bus stop right there. I am a camper with my family and noted the lovel outlook the campervans got for being in the middle of Wellington, a great cheap alternative. Thanks Judy and team we will be back again soon! :) P.S Great black out curtains I never normaly sleep in till 9am! Comfy beds, and sooooooo quiet! I hear everything! A+ for us!

“Ok for ferry - that's all.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

We stayed 2 nights, Saturday (final of rugby 7s) & Sunday. Chose location so we could get to ferry easily on a Monday morning: ferry is 6.5km away, easy drive.
Reception was friendly on arrival, gave us milk & cookies, but did not show us to our room (as had been the case at previous motels we'd stayed at). Had to park where we could, & had a 30m walk in the rain to our room (room 301, I think).

On site restaurant & bar - didn't use as we sent out/had our own supplies. Thought both we re overpriced.

Room was most expensive of our trip: the cashed in on it being a weekend/rugby 7s etc etc. Definitely not worth it, but as said, chose so we didn't have to negotiate Monday morning rush hour across/through the city.

Room: had 1 double & 1 single bed, 1 very uncomfortable armchair, 3 dining chairs, 1 dining table. Seemed dull & dowdy, but as it rained all the time we were there, & couldn't even see across the lawn, maybe that was just our perception. No wardrobe - just a hanging rail inside main door.

Kitchenette: bit dated but sufficient for our needs (ie cereals/sandwich making). New-ish microwave, old kettle & ancient toaster.

Bathroom: stainless steel shower base that moved when we shifted weight. Floors & walls dripped condensation after use - probably due to it being so cold & wet outside. Towels did not dry out overnight, so we went against our normal reuse practice & put all 4 in for laundry. Toilet roll was 1-ply & was in a 2-roll dispenser. Fell to pieces when initially pulled.

Wifi: purchased in reception NZ$4 (can't remember how long for or what Mb download), but signal was good & quick.

Managed to park outside our room when we returned on the Sunday (1 of 3 places for 10 or 12 rooms).

The morning we left, the sun shone & we were able to see houses on hills above the motel, & a village in the valley: capital Gateway certainly looked better in the sun!

Probably wouldn't stay there again.
