We stayed 2 nights, Saturday (final of rugby 7s) & Sunday. Chose location so we could get to ferry easily on a Monday morning: ferry is 6.5km away, easy drive.
Reception was friendly on arrival, gave us milk & cookies, but did not show us to our room (as had been the case at previous motels we'd stayed at). Had to park where we could, & had a 30m walk in the rain to our room (room 301, I think).
On site restaurant & bar - didn't use as we sent out/had our own supplies. Thought both we re overpriced.
Room was most expensive of our trip: the cashed in on it being a weekend/rugby 7s etc etc. Definitely not worth it, but as said, chose so we didn't have to negotiate Monday morning rush hour across/through the city.
Room: had 1 double & 1 single bed, 1 very uncomfortable armchair, 3 dining chairs, 1 dining table. Seemed dull & dowdy, but as it rained all the time we were there, & couldn't even see across the lawn, maybe that was just our perception. No wardrobe - just a hanging rail inside main door.
Kitchenette: bit dated but sufficient for our needs (ie cereals/sandwich making). New-ish microwave, old kettle & ancient toaster.
Bathroom: stainless steel shower base that moved when we shifted weight. Floors & walls dripped condensation after use - probably due to it being so cold & wet outside. Towels did not dry out overnight, so we went against our normal reuse practice & put all 4 in for laundry. Toilet roll was 1-ply & was in a 2-roll dispenser. Fell to pieces when initially pulled.
Wifi: purchased in reception NZ$4 (can't remember how long for or what Mb download), but signal was good & quick.
Managed to park outside our room when we returned on the Sunday (1 of 3 places for 10 or 12 rooms).
The morning we left, the sun shone & we were able to see houses on hills above the motel, & a village in the valley: capital Gateway certainly looked better in the sun!
Probably wouldn't stay there again.
