Positive: Very pleasant, helpful reception staff. Easy to find, relatively quiet location is a ten minute walk to town centre. Double glazed windows. Plenty of tea and coffee in the room. Quite large bathroom. Good selection of Free DVD's on offer together with internet access at the office. Property is quite new and some aspects of the building seem very well constructed by NZ standards. Air-con in rooms (but did not try this). The suite was very well cleaned and plenty of toiletries.

Negative: Executive suite was a complete misnomer. The main room and bedroom were small and storage limited even with just one medium suitcase and two small holdalls. Furniture is very basic such as bedside tables with no drawers. Sofa was OK for comfort and quite large (you can squeeze two adults and tow kids), but the main bed was hard and zipped together - just awful we got literally 2-4 hours sleep a night. TV, but no DVD player in the adult bedroom meant that you could not watch a film as the kids had their single beds in the main room which had the only DVD player. This means that you all have to go to bed early and not really much point in going for the "Suite". Parking spaces are a nominal size and with a few not parking their vehicles too well it means that you can't even get a car in the space as you would have a real problem getting out of your door, also not good trying to unload your car in the rain. Kitchen area has two hot rings, but no oven, so don't buy a pizza. Flaking or bubbled paint in bathroom ceiling possibly caused by lack of people using the fan.

Summary: Maybe if two less units were crammed into the same space, then the rest could have been less cramped. If you just need one night on a leisure trip (business trip not recommended unless you like hard beds otherwise you'll be tired and useless the next day), there are some good points about this property, but it's a shame that a few fundamentals are lacking at this price point - other hotels offer more comfort and space. What a shame as the staff are so nice.

Stayed at Alpine Lake for one night with a booking made very last minute. We arrived late in the evening and was warmly greeted even though it was after normal office hours. The room felt brand new and was very clean, spacious and comfortable. Felt it was slightly expensive given the number of hotels in total in Taupo but we did book about 3 hrs before arriving. My partner said he felt it was the first hotel that had been worth the money spent (been travelling around NZ). Would recommend.

We stayed here 2 nights in November when we were doing the Taupo cycle race. It was a comfortable and clean motel room with a small kitchen area and shower and spa bath. The spa bath took a while to fill as the flow from the taps was slow so remember to put it on way in advance! It was also very close to the centre and lake, 5 min walk which was great for us and had plenty of parking. Despite paying a hiked up price for the race weekend we were very happy with what we got and think this would be a good deal at normal prices. Not particularly romantic but very practical place to stay.

My family stayed there for 2 nights at their family spa +BBQ room. The room is nice and big, one queen bed in the lounge and 3 single bed in the bedroom. Free WiFi, a DVD player, free DVDs and plunger coffees! A large Spa in the bathroom, we also had a private BBQ garden. The house keeping service is at a satisfied level as well.
The price for this room is a bit expensive. But I guess it will be perfect for bigger families (we only have 3 people). Location is quite central although there is no lake view at all.
