We stayed for two nights. There is no reception so couldn't comment on the service. We were emailed directions on where to locate the key and how to contact the owner if there was a problem. The Apartment was in a great location and easy to find. It was very clean except for the spots on the carpet (there were quite a few) but apart from that it was a very nice place to stay.

We booked one of the three bedroom apartments for a long weekend and found the apartment perfect for staying in.

The instructions we received via email telling us how to gain access were great, and the underground parking was very handy for loading & unloading. Maybe one thing they could add was a trolley that people could use to take all their luggage up in one go.

We ended up cooking in for most meals and the kitchen was very well appointed, and the crockery, glasses etc were of a high standard.

The thermal heated pool and spa were well maintained and the access to the beach and walkway was great. Although the apartment is 2.5 from the town centre, it is a lovely, flat walk along the lake front, and the cost in a taxi was around the $12 mark at about 1.30 am - so pretty reasonable.

In summary I think that most people would find the apartments a great place to stay.

On deciding on an apartment in Taupo I really wanted one that was close to Lake Taupo. Normally I read what everyone says on Trip Advisor but these apartments had very limited reviews. We arrived to find no one home, doors locked and I felt I had made a rather large mistake. I rang a contact number I had and found a very pleasant lady arrive to say they had been expecting us. It seems there is no reception but rather these apartments are owned by individuals and a certain number are let as short term holiday vacation apartments.
The apartment was enormous in size and could easily have slept 6 people and still had room over to house more. You can see from the photos that the standard of the apartments is excellent and the pool, spa, gym and sauna that go with the apartment renting is included. The kitchen was well set out with top of the range equipment and the bar stools, which I really loved, became my favourite resting place. Waimahana is right on Lake Taupo and you can walk the water’s edge and see the steaming rivulets of water enter the Lake. Nothing has been missed in these apartments, the bathrooms (there are 2- one with a double shower) were lovely and spotlessly clean. The bed was so very comfortable and the lounge area (there were 2 lounge areas: one with the large flat screen TV (with Sky etc) and the other was a quite nook where you could sit and read- this area was also a 3rd bedroom with a large pull down bed incorporated) was delightful. Lock up garage for your car is included and all of this is accessed via an electronic key as is the apartment area.
The Waimahana Apartments are about 3 kms from Taupo Town Centre proper so if you need to supermarket you will need to take your car (supermarket open 6am- 12 midnight). There are so many restaurant choices in Taupo and although the information in the apartment compendium was rather light on in detail there was a pile of tourist information secreted away in one of the glass fronted cupboards.
Location of Waimahana was for us just wonderful, great base to investigate the surrounding areas… and we had a great stay at Taupo.
