My wife and I were originally suppose to stay at the Terraces Hotel. However, as their renovation work was still ongoing they found accommodation for us at Waimahana. What follows is not a criticism of the Terraces Hotel nor judgment on their choice of alternative accommodation.
First impressions are important and our two bedroom two bathroom apartment did not disappoint. However, upon closer inspection all was not what it appeared to be.
To start, the furnishings were either dirty or absolutely filthy. Pillows that were used to hide dirt or stains on chairs were themselves dirty (on both sides). When you have to clean the furniture with antibacterial wipes, which was mostly leather, you know there is a problem.
When my wife used one of the toilets she noticed that there was urine on the seat. How anyone could be so bad about cleaning beggars belief.
The apartment also had a rather foul and terrible odour. We had to go out and purchase air freshener to mask it. This was met with limited success.
Of the few positives one is the underground parking and the second the view of Lake Taupo. Another is that it was a very spacious apartment.
I suppose we should be grateful that we did not pay the going rate for this place. If we had, I would have demanded a portion of our money back.
