“A Great Place to Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

The Hilton Taupo was a place me and my partner went for a bit of a getaway just after our wedding.
The place is stunning and very relaxing as it is tucked up a hill over looking the lake and away from all the hustle and bustle.
The service was second to none and will bend over backwards to make you feel right.
The food was absolutly devine, expensive but yummy!
We would go back again for sure.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake veiw room, and eat in the Lago Resturant, you may have to pay a bit extra but well wo...

“Top place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed with my family 2adults 2 children on the 12th and 13th of January. We stayed in an interconnecting room facing the valley. I had read previous reviews that this was an ugly view I disagree. The view is still great however the further east you go on the building then you will get closer to an industrial building. The weather was cloudy and rainy when we were there so we didn't miss looking over the lake. When the sun did break through on one occasion the view of the lake from the hotel was great so the view is worth the upgrade.
.
I was offered $25per adult full breakfast on check in which i took up despite a gentleman who was also checking in bagging out the hotel breakfast. I had also read less than glowing reviews about the breakfast. The room are big and so are the plush bathrooms with some of the best toiletries and towels i have encountered in hotels (excluding palazzo versace). The only problem with the rooms i believe is that you share a balcony. In our case it didn't matter as we had both rooms and it was great. However, if you were sharing with an unknown person i wouldn't like it at all.
.
I asked concierge about taking a helicopter/seaplane and he had no real idea about it. He was looking things up on the internet. I told him i would look myself as it was taking too long. I think he needs to make some connections in town and have some idea about tours etc.
.
The pool and gym were great. The grounds are nice. The restaurant is a nice place to be in. Breakfast in my view is as good as any 5 star place because i usually just eat standard breakfast. Bacon/eggs/toast cereals etc..... It all taste the same to me. My wife still prefers other hotel breakfasts that offer more variety.
.
We had dinner one of the nights which was very tasty and kids eat free with my little Hilton kids promotion. The restaurant did not know about it but the front desk honored the deal at check out. We were charged for mini bar that we did not used and this was also removed.
.
This did not affect our stay. Great place in a nice town.

Dear yeye007,

Many thanks for you feedback, it is always pleasing to read a positive review.

I do appreciate your feedback regarding the knowledge of our front desk team member when you requested activity information. The team are usually well versed in such activities having completed many of them themselves and I do apologise that we did not ably assist you on this occasion.

Hilton Lake Taupo is perfectly located for exploring the region by Helicopter with our very own Helipad directly in front of the Heritage building; the float plan offers equal stunning views of the Great Lake Taupo region.

We do look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel again in the very near future.

Best regards,

Clinton Farley

“Though lovely,we expected a better overall standard for the price paidrice paid”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Our two night stay was a xmas gift along with concert tickets from our children. We were fortunate enough and very appreciative to get an early checkin. Checkin was quick from very friendly staff though my husband was not at any time during our stay offered porter service.
We had been upgraded to a junior suite which was comfortable and beautifully presented. A few things we found lacking were even though a coffee plunger was in the room the only coffee plunger granules to use for it came with a hefty $10 price charge!!! Also only two english breakfast teabags - not very good for both of us who just enjoy a cup of tea. I would think for the price paid to stay that plunger coffee would be supplied (like most motels with plungers) and a better supply of teabags be in amenities dish.
Room servicing not up to standard, again disappointing as we had left room pretty spic and span anyway and again with the price paid we expected a better service. Floors were not vac'd or wiped, only one face cloth left, no replacement toilet roll etc.
Other then that the service in housebar was great and we did enjoy our visit though on paying a/c on departure the $15 charge we thought was for a two night stay to use the underground carpark (recommended by reception)was in fact per night. Bit of a rip off we thought.

Room Tip: Back facing very good as so quiet

“Good value, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Good hotel, but a bit out of town (not walking distance), which made it attractive to us as quieter and more relaxing. We had a large room, although there wasn't a lot of places to put clothes. Nice bath, with big tub, separate shower, dual sinks, heated towel rack. Ask for an upper floor with a Lake view -- view was nice and sunsets striking. The room shared a balcony with a few other rooms, but our neighbors seemed to respect each room's privacy and it worked out well. Getting to the room is a little strange as we went through 4 pass-keyed security and fire doors -- don't have to worry about security!

There is a considerable daily charge for parking at the hotel, but you can park down the hill a bit (not far) for free. WiFi and internet are quite pricey, but we used hot spots in town. Room service was good, if a bit pricey, but you could easily go into town, get something and eat on your balcony with a great view. We did not use the restaurant as they were very busy and we were tired after touring. There was a gym, heated pool, and spa, but it was fairly busy with families, so we skipped.

Staff was extremely friendly. We were there over Christmas and Boxing Day, so they were a bit short-staffed and it showed some in service (incomplete cleaning and servicing of the room, slow room service, shortage of ice, printer issues at the front desk), but it was their biggest holidays. They tried to address service issues to the extent they could. The staff were ready to provide advice on attractions, and genuinely welcoming and helpful. When we checked out, we casually said where we were headed since it was our 25th Anniversary. In a flash, one girl returned with a bottle of champagne, and a bellman was helping my husband load our bags into the car and wishing us a special day. It was a very nice gesture and it seemed very heartfelt. It had us leaving with a very good impression of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for upper floor, Lake view
