Located across the road from the largest lake in New Zealand, Lakeland Resort is a place where one goes only when on a budget. Not all the rooms offer the views of the lake and are also not well lit. Infact you can hear people from the neighbouring rooms of all their activities which was quite disappointing. Not much to offer on the restaurant front as well though you can take benefit of the happy hours. The restaurants and pubs were not at walking distance and you need a car to go across. All-in-all, stay here only if the budget is tight.

A disappointing hotel in a dull town. The rooms were clean and that's about all one can say about the place. Its supposedly recently been refurbished, but the rooms are dark and equipped with an oversized TV that may be intended to compensate for the dull decor. The plumbing (in our room at least) was eccentric too. Breakfast was not good.

What a hidden gem this place is. With a "special" room rate of NZ$99 per night, we weren't expecting much but as we approached the impressive reception area, things were hopeful. As we entered our room, we were ecstatic to find a modern, clean, fresh room with a huge plasma TV on the wall, and a "new" feeling to it. Very crisp white sheets. The bathroom was even more pleasant as it had utlra modern fittings. Hard to fault for the price. There is no fan in the bathroom so it got very steamy which is a shame as,over time, this will start to deteriorate. Room is not huge but has all you need. The heater was very efficient and even an electric blanket on the bed. The cooked breakfast was average but plenty of it and they did not rush us out. Situated a little out of town which added to the appeal as it was nice and quiet. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone.

We were in Taupo last January, it was a great experience and during summer you can go swimming in the lake! Wonderful.
The Hotel is not very close to the city center and it is better to have your own car to reach it however probably if you go to Taupo you must have a car!

The hotel is not on near the lake but from the room you can see the lake and the mountains of Tongariro during good days!

The personnel at the reception is very kind and if you want you can have breakfast in a room nearby the hotel lodge.

The rooms are in the buildings all around the central one (the lodge) and they are on the ground and the first floor. Every room has the entrance directly from the court or from the balcony.
They are quite big, we had three bed, and clean.
The bathroom is a little bit small but there is everything you need and it has its own window that is very important.

It’s a good place to spend some days in Taupo!
