We were booked for one night and were ungraded to an apartment for no extra cost, on our arrival. A super friendly lady - Anna? on reception who was very helpful and went out of her way to help. Accomodation - great and roomy, Kitchen didn't have a dishwasher which may be nice to have for a longer stay. Stairs in the apartment to get to bedrooms and bathroom ( which had a sliding door that didn't close properly). But everything clean and soaps, shampoos etc provided. Handy to Pukekura Park, can easily walk the couple of blocks. TheTaranaki Cathedral is only a walk around the corner and lovely to look at. Supermarkets down the next parallel main road, 3 all in a row. Narrow car park.

Fantastic location, central to the city, walking distance to most attractions, 5 min walk to the sea.

Stayed here while on a short trip. Room was okay but was expecting it to be slighty bigger than it was. Bed was comfortable but TV was terribly outdated and was very hard to watch. Bathroom was lovely and clean but felt standing on little jets in the spa/shower was annoying. On the Saturday night that we stayed there was a Christmas function held in the restaurant. We were not informed of a live band being present so were kept awake until 1am which we were not happy about! (we could hear everything very clearly from the 4th floor) After ringing about the issue I felt I was fobbed off. Floor wasn't cleaned 100% and often looked dusty in areas. Room service was quick but food was very over priced and the restaurant did not have much on offer and no lunch service either which was disappointing. Felt we overpaid for what we received.

I have stayed a few times at the Copthorne but never again. Firstly, the loo stank of sewarge on one visit. They did fix it with sealing round the sewer pipe connection in the bathroom. Secondly, last weekend we arrived in the room and went to have an afternoon nap aafter our long drive. We found two pillow cases crinkly which we assumed had not been changed from the last person staying. We tried to get them changed and were asked do you mean "now". They wanted to refer it to housekeeping to follow up later in the day. When the front office staff finally came after much complaining from us they tried to tell us that their pillow cases often look like crinkly after washing and pressing!!! The fridge was also turned off so the icebox melted into the fridge. When we tried to mop it up we discovered the fridge hadn't been cleanded for ages as there was mould underneath the shelves and on the ice box door. After the reception we got about the pillows we didn't contact them again to sort it, but we certainly swore that we won't be back.
