Stayed at this hotel a while back while on vacation in New Zeeland.

I have stayed at hundreds of hotels in my life, but none hold a candle to this amazing gem.

These days you get used to hotels with staff that doesnt really care if you come or go,. not even the slightest "hope you have a good time" or "did you enjoy your stay?".

The owners of the Regent really make it stand out with a great appreciation of their customers and a continuous helpful service.
You can really feel their joy in making the guests feel happy and satisfied.
As an example: When we checked out there was heavy rain, the owner actually offered, and drove us to the bus station so we didn't have to walk in the rain.

The food is also outstanding as they make a big effort in providing top notch cuisine.
I liked the styling and the furnishing of the hotel and the rooms.

The location is also perfect.

There is really nothing else to say then:
If you ever stay at Rotorua, you would be foolish to choose anything besides this great hotel!

We stayed only one night at the Regent, as part of a week long driving trip through the North Island. Indeed it is a 'motel' - but refurbished to a very high standard. We had a great room offered to us (Room 18) - but we found it a little stuffy and hot and the poor a/c unit wasn't working too well. They then moved us at no cost to a different room (suite?) with a separate lounge and bedroom with openable windows (as my wife and I are 'fresh air freaks'). Despite the interesting 'aroma' or Rotorua we slept like babies.

Breakfast was very tasty (except for a minor hiccup with the bacon) and made a nice change from the often 'thin pickings' of a complementary continental breakfast.

When we checked in we were given some excellent advice on activities to do in the short time we were there, and had a great time at the Te Puia Geothermal Park (but maybe had a better one at Wai-O-Tapu the next day) and swam in the baths at the Polynesian Spa. The Regent even lent us some nice big towels to take with us.....

Overall the staff were fantastic - we even had the same waitress that served us dinner (at Nuvolari - not bad pizza and very good wine, just down the road!) that night, serve us breakfast the next morning and she remembered us.

We ended up travelling to Taupo the next day, and perhaps, we wished we'd based ourselves there for a few days rather than trying to spread ourselves so thinly - but I would have no hesitation in recommending the Regent to anyone who wanted to stay in Rotorua. Probably more an 'adult' accommodation than a family - but I'm sure everyone would enjoy it.

Room tip: Rooms 18 - 20 are in their own little wing, and 18 is at the end of a corridor - good if you don't want to be disturbed.....

Recently spent two nights here. The owners were super helpful and the room was comfortable with good bed, sheets, comfortor and bathrobe. Nice touches included ipod station, french plunge coffee and hot tub and heated pool on site.

We loved this place! Great room with carefully thought out decor, very comfortable furniture, the shower was good with excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water, the whole place sparkling clean. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Location very handy, just a few steps to restaurant strip. We would stay here again for sure.

School holiday's with the kids and we wanted not only to do all the touristy things in Rotorua but also relax and feel revived when we came back so decided to spend the extra to stay at Regent of Rotorua in the 2 bedroom executive suite. It was well worth it! The room was great, the service amazing, it was so close to everything (the lake, parks and great restuarants), the pool was the perfect temperature for my 3 & 6 year olds and they spent so much time in there. It was great and deserves the rave reviews it gets...
