It was pure joy to relax at the Lodge. Our hosts, Margaret and Tony, made us feel completely at home in their gorgeous house. It is superbly maintained and beautifully appointed. The decor is tasteful, and the small touches, such as fresh flowers, added to the ambience. Our room was large, extremely comfortable and furnished to an exacting standard ( all the amenties were top notch). We overlooked the pool and beautifully lush garden, with a side view to Lake Rotorua. The upstairs dining room and living room overlook the lake, and even on a rainy day, the conservatory afforded an excellent spot to sit and enjoy the views. All this and just minutes from the center of Rotorua.
The two chefs (dinner and breakfast) are to be commended for their excellent culinary skills- and they catered to our diverse tastes. We were asked what we would like, and after a day spent doing whatever, we came "home" to a fabulous meal. Andre, maitre d', made some excellent wine suggestions and remembered what aperitifs the guests liked, a welcome touch.
The Lodge attracts some delightful and interesting travellers. The option was always ours whether we dined with others or alone, and was handled in such a way that there was never any awkwardness. We opted to have dinner with others one night and a romantic dinner, served in the library, the next night - the choice is yours!.
Margaret booked my spa appointments and Tony accompanied my husband for a game of golf - way and above being hosts. Our laundry was done for a minimal charge.
There are a plethora of activities locally and Tony and Margaret will happily advise/book. Loved, loved, loved this place............(A note to our companion guests "Radio Caroline lives on"!)
