The hosts are very welcoming and conscientious, they have thought of everything -bathrobes, plates and cutlery, bottle of wine to buy in the room. Even booked our trips.
Also a hot tub and small gym. Don't need a car here 5 mins walk to town. Fab views from balcony. Excellent breakfast and a choice for those with special dietary requirements. Hotel quality honestly welcome.

From the minute we arrived to the time we reluctantly bid adieu, Inge and her team were fantastic!! Beautifully appointed rooms,(We tried to think of something it lacked - and couldnt), magnificent vistas overlooking the bay,scrumptiously comfortable bed, to die for breakfasts and an extremely knowledgeable fantastic hostess Inge - made our stay truly memorable. Thanx Muchly

The bed was so comfortable!!!!! Essential for a good nights sleep so you can enjoy the activities the next day.
The service was spot on! Inge was so helpful and spoilt us during our stay.
The breakfast was yummy! plenty of it and looking out to a great view.
The suite had everything and more! we were in the Bellevue suite with the separate bedroom.

We booked the room underneath the building. It costs a lot less. It was clear from the web that Chalet Romantica was a good establishment. Our accommodation search indicated Paihia was more expensive than other destinations. Paihia was potentially out of range for us accommodation wise in terms of value for money. However the room underneath at Chalet Romantica showed up as being at a price we were comfortable with and Chalet Romantica has free wifi. We thought we could use the common areas if the basement room was not so good to spend time in. The basement room does not have the wonderful Bay of Islands view and this was clear from the information available. It also does not get the wifi – this was not apparent from the web. The spa and pool area were certainly available to us and they are of very high standard. You need to comply with the owners requests and it helps if you can figure how to operate the pool and spa. The view deck was not so available as we would have liked. The breakfast room behind glass behind the view deck was only really available for breakfast. The breakfast was superb.
Our intention on booking the basement and to use the terrace view deck for idle hours and internet access was a misunderstanding as the view deck and breakfast room are sort of part of the family home and not for exclusive guest use – this was not apparent from our web search. The hedge was also getting a bit high for the view deck (terrace) when we stayed - it cut out some of the view when seated. The room underneath the building was also a lot smaller than the impression we got from the photographs and storage was limited. We were allowed to put things in our hallway that connects upstairs. There was an unused locked off room next to ours, with its door from ours and this was a bit creepy. The goats are fun and the farm like aspect of this room is good. Our hosts booked us on an excellent trip to the sand dunes and Cape Regina - it cost a lot less and did more – it visited a really big dune to sand board down – it was the back packers bus trip. Our boat trip did not get out to the hole in the rock and stayed in the inner waters because some passengers got sea sick. I thought this a disappointment - at the Great Barrier Reef, the boats still do the trip out into the rough water despite passenger sea sickness. Bay of Islands is scenically magnificent however we found value travel hard to find.
