“Great camp spot, great owners!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

The Falls Motel is our chosen stop in Paihia and it is fantastic! We park up our camper van in our waterfront spot overlooking the Haruru Falls, it is pretty incredible to wake up with a waterfall as your view! We take out the free Kayaks and the owner tells us it is pretty cool as it is amongst the mangroves. We have been on the water for about 20min when my boyfriend says that is far enough, I power on and say “but we have not got to the mangroves yet”, BF laughs and tells me “we are in the Mangroves and have been since we got in!!” Ha…this is typical of me! Just incase anyone else makes that mistake.

Just after my moment of sheer Brilliance, My BF shows off his backward rowing technique, when a look of horror sweeps across his face, he capsizes in epic style legs overhead into the murky water. I could not be more pleased after he ripped it out of me! I am still not sure if it was the cold water (which he claims) or the possibility of a hungry crocodile waiting under the boat to take a bite out of his very eatable JLO (I didn’t tell him you don’t get them in NZ).

The struggle does not end there. The panic of the possible lingering Crocodile sends my BF into a frenzy to climb back onto the unstable Kayak. He struggles and falls not once, which is funny enough but three times. Clambering on one side and falling off the other. The look of horror on his face growing ever frantic each time he falls. The guy who owns the place said it is nearly impossible! I have not laughed that hard in a long time!

Anyway enough of my stories, the place is great! Fantastic owners who will book all your trips for you and good facilities! What else could you need! Oh and if you are younger and want to go to Cape Reinga book with Awesome tours!

If you are going to NewZealand and would like to check out the adventure of two foodies and winos, who love life and adventure sports around the North and South Island for 3 weeks in a camper van then take a look at www.carpediem-life.com ! Feel free to contact me and to comment for more info :). We are also travelling around Australia and South East Asia, if you have a second check it out!

“Great spot for camping”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

As a family, we have just returned from 5 nights in Northland, NZ. We stayed in Paihia in a little place called Haruru Falls. What a spot!!! Our tent was right infront of the stunning falls. The hosts were great with informaiton about the area. The kitchen and amemities are clean and adiquite. It is a small camp site but this makes it all the more lovely. We could use the pool that is up by the motel units too. We could hire canoes and go up to and (as my daughter did) under the falls. It was only 3ks to the centre of Paihia and about 15 minutes drive from the delightfull Kerikeri. We did a day trip to the top of NZ and spent a morning visiting the West Coast at the Kauri Forest. I would not recommend the road to Kaitia (very winding bends) - take the coast road. It's only about another 10ks longer but much more pleasant. I would highly recommend this spot for camping - it was really cheap too.

“Excellent value and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We stayed at The Falls Motel for two nights as we were doing a parachute jump in Keri Keri. The location was great as it was very close to Paihia and all that offers as well as being close to our jump location. It was also nice to stay away from the main drag in Paihia and be near fresh water for a swim. Andre the owner was very friendly and made us feel at home. He advised us of nice running trails in the area and nothing was too much trouble. The Motel was very clean and tidy and the rooms were well set out with everything you could need including a flat screen TV and DVD player incase it rained. They also have a selection of DVDs for rent in the office. We used the BBQ one night to cook our dinner and found everything we needed plates etc in the room. There is a great walk through bush you can run or walk to Waitangi and ofcourse swimming in the falls was fun. We stayed at a very reasonable $100 a night special. I would stay there again next time Im in the bay. Well done Andre and family! Gary and Heather

“Excellent service, location and campsite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Me and my girlfriend stayed here on a tour of NZ and found the guy who ran the site really helpful and welcoming. He arranged our trips for the following days and even gave us a lift into town one day as we didn't want to take the camper.

The site is great and the amazing Haruru falls became the view out of the back window of our van. The pitches are right against the water and the sound of the falls was great for falling asleep too.

There are kayaks for hire for next to nothing and we spent a great afternoon exploring the mangroves. Another guest had done the same and had dolphins swim under his kayak but was further down the river towards the sea outlet.

All in all great camp site and hotel, good location and excellent service. Great DVD hire selection as well.

Room Tip: Ask for a pitch against the falls

We had a great time at the Falls motel. We stayed a week but could easily have stayed for two. The kids loved the pool and the 2 bedroomed unit we had was ideal for our family.. Andre was great and very helpful. The combination of motel and campsite is ideal for families- the units give you a bit more comfort but the campsite gives the kids the opportunity to make friends with other kids.

Room Tip: If you have kids try and choose a room that looks over the pool.
