We were lucky enough to have chalet no. 1 which had 2 bedrooms, bathroom and lounge diner and kitchen. We borrowed DVDs to amuse ourselves in the evenings and were able to take advantage of free wifi.

Our expat hosts were very friendly and welcoming. We recommend this motel though you might need a satnav to find it,

This little piece of paradise and warmest of hospitality should not be missed if you plan to visit the Bay of Islands area. We two travelers met many wonderful hosts during our two-week tour of the North and South Islands, but none compare with the genuine regard Norm & Shelagh showed us in this, our last lodging. We were met with smiles and warmth, despite our very late arrival, and driven to our room, though only a short walk. Norm opened the door and showed us around our completely renovated, modern, clean, comfortably appointed and spacious one bedroom suite. Breakfast on the veranda, in the sun, over-looking the pool and the ocean started our day! We appreciated the little postings here and in many of the NZ motor lodges we stayed, as it showed the hosts cared about our safety and comfort. (Actually, in one place there were no postings and, though the host apologized profusely and tried to freshen the air, we had to endure the lingering cooking odors of the previous guests.) N & S offered and arranged a taxi for us to one of their favorite restaurants, which turned out to be among the very best meals of the entire trip. Norm even drove us to two beautiful sites, often missed by visitors. It's easy to understand why guests return to Cook's Lookout year after year.

We enjoyed a happy hour with our hosts who made us very welcome. They gave us good advice on where to eat and arranged a tour of 90 mile beach.
A very quiet place to stay with awesome views!

I stayed at Cook's Lookout for 2 night in January and found it using TripAdvisor. After a long drive from Tauranga I was very pleased with my room and of course the best view one can get. I stayed in unit 5, which only had a small sun deck compared to the neighbors, but the sun rises in front of the room and until 5PM you can enjoy the sun. Unit 4 was attached to mine and was larger and mainly had a sun deck all along the side of the unit. Next time I might book the bigger unit, just for the longer sun hours. Overall, the unit was great. Hosts are friendly as anywhere in NZ. I never had a bad experience in the 6 times I went on vacation in NZ. Norm even draw a map for sightings on the way to Auckland. The guest who left before took the same route so he could copy it. Perhaps time for 1 good map and then make copies Norm?
