My husband and I stayed at the Fountain Court Motel for 4 nights, enough to get a feel for Hawke's Bay 2 weeks into our 10-week drive through NZ. I had done some research prior to our arrival and knew that Napier enjoys lots of sunshine and the accompanying heat, so I made sure we were booked in an air-conditioned unit. Not all of them are, so ask first! We were pleasantly surprised by this modern 1-bedroom unit; we only used the a/c for a coupe of hours in late afternoon each day, after that there was enough of a breeze in early January for comfort. The unit had a well-appointed kitchenette, patio shared with other guests (not so private), lovely bathroom with huge capsule-like shower, including footrest which I had never seen before (very thoughtful!). Low-cost broadband Internet access was useful and appreciated.Impeccably cleaned daily with fluffy towels, a plus!
There are only a few minor things I can say against this motel: firstly, in our unit upstairs, the size of the bedroom window: too small for a good through air-flow and absolutely no view from the bedroom. Secondly, the front looks over the parking lot, not the sea, as the location is one street inland. Thirdly, there is onlt one coin-operated washer and dryer for the whole place and limited to use by guests between 13h00-20h00, so you need to queue or get there early as dinner-time is rush-hour. Another set of washer/dryer would be most helpful. There is a clothes-ine out back, open 24/7 though!
As I said, these things are minor and reflected in the price. Good value if you don't need a view!
