Due to high last minute prices for other hotels in Hamilton, we went with the Le Grand - they had an excellent deal on for one night, $109 for upgraded deluxe room with noon check out and free parking. Despite reading some poor reviews, we felt the risk for one night was not excessive. We were very glad with the choice - while the decor is certainly dated and rooms are tired and a bit on the shabby side, we had a huge room, huge bathroom, and everything we needed. No problems with cleanliness, and the bed was comfy. For the price we paid, it was a great deal. For a longer stay, we would probably pay a little more for a more modern place like the Novotel, but this saved us money for sure. Most other hotels in Hamilton seem to charge an extra $10-20 for parking per night, and that was money saved for us.
We noted that the hotel was up for sale. This could lead to some service issues I guess, with uncertainty over ownership, but we had helpful people at reception on both days we visited front desk.
People have commented on the noise, but it wasn't a problem on the night we were there.
We didn't have any kind of a view, but it didn't matter for a one night stay.
You can't ask for a better location, it's right in the centre of town. It would be easier if there was an area outside the lobby for picking up and dropping off, but I guess this is a very old heritage building and it's right on the roadfront.
