“Solid motel, neither standout nor bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Close to city centre, close to beach (no view and no direct access to beach, but it's only a couple of hundred metres away), close to information centre.

Not sure if all units have spa baths, ours did (a reason for booking here). Usual selection of basic teas and instant coffee, and they give you a 300ml bottle of milk when you arive.

Room was a decent size. Ceiling fan was needed for us cooler weather types even in late October, so we were thankful for that.

Reasonable selection of TV channels - usual free to air and the common Sky channels one tends to get at hotels and motels, probably one or two more channels than expected..

I'm almost talking myself into giving them 4 out of 5 but somehow it didn't have enough X-factor for 4, so it's a 3-and-a-bit out of 5 which is still a good result.

“Clean and well presented”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

A well presented clean room had every thing you needed including chilled water in fridge. Friendly staff and our unit was nice and quiet. Would stay again.

“lovely clean units”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

I am a regular traveller to Gisborne and prefer to stay at this motel. The staff are friendly and aproachable, the units clean, and is within walking distance to the beach and shops.

“A little noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011

The place was empty on a Friday night. Found the room a little noisy , probally needs some real double glazing. Room clean and tidy, Staff friendly. Lacked the wow factor.

I would probally stay else where on my next visit.

“Good first impressions”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2011

Overall I would say not a bad place to stay and in my experience of NZ motels and hotels falls into the category of meeting my expectations. The room (No4) is brand new, immaculate without any nasty's to report, like I have found in other hotels before. Well done cleaning team. The bed was uncomfortable but in fairness I have only found one hotel bed comfortable before. There's nothing like your own bed is there? Room comes with electric blankets, fan, fan heater, tea and coffee, kettle, toaster, microwave, hairdryer, nice flat screen TV with Sky, a nice size working fridge, clock radio, phone, sofa, table and chairs. Has an adjoining door to the next room. Has free (100Mb) wireless hotspots although once again the hotspots are only luke warm with dropping off all the time if you can get a signal at all. SO COMMON why don't hotels and motels get this problem sorted out? Has a dining room which I ate breakfast in on the first day. Disappointing even though it was cooked to order. I ordered poached eggs and got fried. Well cremated eggs. If cafes, motels and hotels offer food they should be able to cook. I have yet to find someone in NZ (apart from me) that can cook an egg correctly. There is a big digger 6metres away from my room at the moment that starts up at 7am every morning. Not quite the "Quiet room" I was offered at reception.
