“Shhhh... don't tell everyone!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Having been staying at City Lodge for years now I'm slightly reluctant to share this brilliant secret. It's everything a regular business traveller could want (in fact any traveller who does not want to pay a king's ransom for accommodation): centrally located, friendly, safe, spotlessly clean, well-appointed rooms and yes, great value! In my experience you could pay a whole lot more and not get anything that ticks nearly as many boxes.

“Auckland on a budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Good but basic accommodation in Auckland, good facilities for cooking, laundry. if you want to explore Auckland it is in an ideal location. Short free bus ride available nearby to downtown, but very easy to walk. use this a initial base as we did and see more of NZ. If you are gay there are bars/sauna nearby,do a bit of research.

Room Tip: Depending on the other guests,it can be a little noisier than a mainstream hotel, but it will not spo...

Thank you for your comments, we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. I agree the location of City Lodge is great close to K'rd area yet only a short stroll to the Viaduct harbour or Sky City.

I hope we will see you again at City Lodge and that you enjoyed the rest of your holiday in NZ.

Regards Glenn

“Good value for money, good sleep, indifferent staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

I stayed for one night in a single room in August 2011. I found overall, the stay to be good. The pros and cons:

Pros - good location, short walk to the city, close to food places and K-Road. The room was small but had everything I needed and was well thought out. Bed was comfy and the bedroom was clean and warm. Security was good, while no 24-hour reception, late-night access to the room was easy also (I was in Auckland attending a late-night concert). Price was good.

Cons - reception staff were indifferent to the point of being unfriendly. No explanation given for where things were, I felt like I was interrupting them by checking in. I went elsewhere to ask my questions as I didn't feel like dealing with them again. You can kind of tell they deal with long-term students all day rather than tourists.
The room, while mostly clean, had a few cleanliness issues in the bathroom - shower door needed a better scrub, there was hair in the drain, the toilet paper holder was directly under the soap dispenser and was covered with several days worth of gunky dripped soap. A bit of a deep clean would not have hurt.

Overall: For the price I paid I was happy. I slept well and the room was quiet. Nice opening window looking out over the street. The business seems to be aimed at student long-term accommodation so felt a bit strange staying as a tourist, but it was perfectly fine for what I needed. I would stay again.

Hi and thank you for placing your review. I am glad to hear you see City Lodge is good Value for money but your comments regarding the staff are concerning to me. We aim to provide our guests the highest standard of customer service, we offer in-depth local knowledge of Auckland and should be advising our guests of the services offered at City Lodge. We will bring this up at our next front office meeting to ensure all staff are reminded to offer this level of service at check in, sorry again for this incident.

In regards to the shower in Dec we contracted an external company to come and deep clean our glass shower doors. The commercial cleaning products we use daily will not remove glass pitting and fogging that builds up over time, please be assured the showers are clean. Thanks again for your comments.

We look forward to your next visit at City Lodge.

Regards Glenn

“Bad nights sleep!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2011

I stayed at City Lodge for a week, and was disappointed. I would advise that for not much more, you can stay in a serviced apartment!

The rooms were very noisy at night, with people meeting up outside throughout the night, leading to a lot of drunken screaming. The windows do not seem to be double glazed, which makes the rooms both noisy and cold. You also have to pay for Wifi.. which if you add this on to the price of the room, you do actually pay the same price as a serviced apartment with free wifi!

The upside to the City Lodge, was that it does have friendly staff, and was kept very clean.

“Small rooms, but good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2011

The rooms were pretty small, but there was enough space for our stuff, and thats all we needed!
The lodge is a bit out of the noise and busy-ness of the city, which is always nice.
