I have traveled New Zealand north to south, and slept in many motels\lodge\hotels\backpackers and so on, this is one of the worst I have seen.

When we came to Auckland in the beginning of the trip we slept in different place, when we returned we checked the bbh booklet and saw this backpacker which received a very high grade.

1) When we came to the place there was no one, and we could not enter (we booked by phone, and didn't receive the code for the door).

2) when we manged to enter, we found out that there is no reception but a very small desk with no one around, you have to call to the owner.

3) the room is small and the windows have no view what so ever (could be the specific room we got)

4) the kitchen is SUPER small, and doesn't compare to the massive high tech accessorized kitchens that we saw all over New Zealand.(including Auckland)

5) (MOST IMPORTANT!) we booked a shuttle with the owner help ( a very nice lady) and paid upfront, in th morning when the shuttle came to pick us to the airport, the driver wanted to see the voucher, when we gave it to him, he said that it is not enough money and this specific backpacker have tendency to cheat him, and that he is sick and tired from them , he asked for more money.
Since we planned to go back home we didn't have any more cash., eventually he agreed to take us.

To summarize: there is many other better backpackers in Auckland, I will not return to that place.

Rooms are simple but clean and the kitchens offer all needed facilities. Bathrooms fine and all well-kept.
The manager and her support staff are all very helpful and free wireless internet access is great.
Be prepared for a good 20minute walk from the downtown quays area. But this location also very close to great range of restaurants on k-road.

The location of the hostel is pretty good - just a ten minute walk to Queen Street, and close to a supermarket. The staff are helpful and friendly, however, I was quite disappointed with the cleanliness of the place given previous reviews. There were flies buzzing about everywhere and the kitchen space was very small and cluttered.

The free WiFi is a bonus, however, it comes in one hour bundles (you are given as much as you need), meaning you have to log in and out regularly. This is not too big an issue, but a slight inconvenience.

The hostel feels like a university dorm, and as such, it is easy to meet people and make friends.

I stayed at Freeman's Lodge in Freeman's Bay, Auckland New Zealand for about 2 weeks whilst looking for an apartment of my own. As I wasn't sure when I'd be leaving, I was apprehensive about having a rolling timeframe, but the staff were very accommodating, allowing me to pay for a few days at a time, as well as keep the same room I was in.
The Lodge is very clean and tidy, the dorm rooms large and airy, and the shared living areas and grounds very well maintained, especially considering how cheap the rooms are. In fact, I'd have to say it's the cleanest backpackers I've ever stayed at.
There are no meals provided, although it has two kitchens for people to cook their own meals.
The place is located close to Auckland city, K' Road for your bars and clubs, and Ponsonby Rd for fashion and more upmarket places, so you're never short of things to do, and there is a "dairy" (mini-mart) close distance as well so you can buy your own food and drinks.
