Probably one of the best hostel stays - a very homely feel, friendly atmosphere and the manager Ian could not have been more helpful in advising us. Would highly recommend staying here. The location is a bus journey from the centre, but most of what you need is in Parnell/Newmarket (there is not much in the CBD!). The toilet/shower facilities could do with an upgrade from 1960's but that's about it - they work, have hot water etc so all good. The resident cat is very cool. There is also a small caravan you can stay in if there is low availabiliy - worth asking abut as its cheaper but still has a heater and privacy. Some people were also staying in a tent on the front lawn, so if you're looking to camp safely its worth asking.

We enjoyed our stay at this hostel. It's true that the common areas a run-down, and the shared bathrooms are pretty basic. However, it is an awesome old house - we had a great room that was a converted sunroom - and overall it is a friendly place. The location, up in Parnell, would not be good for someone who is wanting to be close to the K Road nightlife, but it's a nice neighborhood with good brunch and dining options and a close busride to downtown. If you're looking for a bit of rambling charm in a nice neighborhood, and willing to look past some worn edges, this is recommended.

This homely hostel has the lived in feel, which is like coming home. Spotlessly clean and well maintained, well stocked kitchen and use of yoga space, friendly environment and lots of little extras, like a set of scales for weighing luggage before heading off to the airpot. In a nice, quiet suburb, known as the creative quarter, yet very well located for public transport to downtown districts.

What I really liked was the homeyness and friendliness and the fact it had a well stocked kitchen, so you did not have to buy oils, condiments, etc., making it really easy to cook great meals. The whole place was clean, very clean. Management very nice. Location great.
