a very enjoyable to stay here, enjoying the design and comfort of the hotel and rooms
great location and excellent food !!
We stayed here on arrival in Auckland for our holiday across north island and again a few nights before our departure from auckland
the beds were a bit too soft for my liking... but it is personal
For a little slice of New York chic with a twist of Kiwi stay here. This was about my 40th hotel room in 9 months, admittedly i was in here by chioce, but it was one of the best, Fantastic reception staff who helped in ever way and a great room with mucho comfy bed. The breakfast the next day which is included was fantastic with a great variety of fresh fruit, cerals, bread and real coffee, not percolated stuff but reall Coffee!! Also treated ourselves to dinner in the dining room truly amazing food. The location can't be faulted, and while the bars around the hotel can be noisy the rooms are double glazed so are very quiet and good aircon means they don't get stuffy. Whether its work or vaccation. Stay here!
Excellent hotel in every respect. Great staff and a personal touch from the owners. Location couldn't be better!
Arriving jet-lagged and irritable after an over-night flight from Hong Kong, my first impression was that somebody had been over-generous in their liberal use of the palette when selecting a colour scheme for the hotel. It was a few hours later when I realised that the carpet matched my socks and the penny dropped that if not the handiwork of Paul Smith it was clearly inspired by him.
Similarly, it took a couple of nights really to appreciate fully the design of our room. Although it first appeared a little small, this was because a sliding door enabled one to divide the room into sleeping and living elements. In truth, there was ample room. The large bathroom similarly makes excellent use of the available space. This hotel was in a recent incarnation a backpackers' hostel and I suspect this bathroom could well have been then a very compact bedroom itself. It had both tub and shower and his'n'hers basins and tiles of a disorientating pattern, like Bridget Riley on speed.
There are some very endearing features to the B and B package here. The owner hosts a pre-dinner gathering where excellent local wines are poured, a large library of guidebooks and maps can be borrowed from the Drawing Room and there is a very good restaurant (Kitchen) in the same building so only a 20 second stagger from one's room. This is also where breakfast is served - a good selection of muesli, fruit, juice and pastries.
The hotel is centrally located - according to the Frommers guide in a slightly 'edgy' district but whoever wrote this has clearly never seen Leeds City Centre on a Saturday night - and within easy walking distance of the harbour and various parks. Staff are young and very personable; what they lack in terms of training and experience is more than compensated by their enthusiasm.
