“Lovely stay!”

Have just come back from 2 nights at the Ascot Parnell and really enjoyed it. Bart and Therese were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The room (we had splashed out on the Bay View room ) was beautiful - spacious, well-appointed with lovely triple aspect views. This was definitely the most expensive place we had stayed in on our trip, but was a lovely way to end the holiday - and especially as the weather was quite grim whilst we were there, we got to enjoy it even more!

And if you get the chance to meet their beautiful Saluki dogs, that's an extra bonus!

“OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE AND GREAT LOCATION”

Loved our stay at the Ascot Parnell - Bart and Therese the owners were such amazing hosts for our stay. Even during our planning stage for our trip, they were very helpful even gave us tips on the international inticracies of going through customs.

The accomodations are just as they appear in their website and the breakfast provided was simply awesome. My husband loved Therese' Flemish Toast, a unique touch to our trip to Auckand.

The hotel is very centrally located and we were able to either walk to most of the sights we wanted to see or hop on a bus.

Support the small local business in Auckland, you can't beat the service at the Ascot Parnell!

“Respect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

We loved the hosts, they couldn't be more generous in their and commitment to running the B&B as well as they do. Nothing went wrong with our stay except that it wasn't long enough. We were treated with the same respect we gave them, it was a nice quite atmosphere, accompanied by wonderful conversations. Because of our outstanding hosts, we will start looking for B&B's more often. We stayed in a hotel in Australia and we got what we exspected in any other hotel. Lack of comfort being #1. I would whole heartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for a place like home. Nancy

Room Tip: I would exspect all the rooms would be as comfortable as ours was.

“Appalling treatment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

Very expensive for what it offers, small and cramped. Above all, the owners don't seem to realise they are running a b&b that has to offer a certain level of service. We were told off for opening and closing doors(!) in the middle of the afternoon and not allowing the wife to take a nap!! Upon responding that we would leave the next day (nicely) we were told to pack our bags immediately. Ill mannered and uncurteous, I have never been so shocked by such appalling treatment....

Regarding the guests comments: "small and cramped room" and "very expensive"; both are relative terms. The guests booked 3 nights and stayed in one of our Garden-View Rooms at a last-minute-discounted rate, our last available room for their first night. The room is 35 square meters (or 380 square foot). The guests booked two additional nights in our Harbour-View Suite, which we had offered at a 25% discounted rate. The Harbour-View Suite is our most spacious room, 65 square meters or 700 square foot.

After breakfast on her second day we showed the Harbour-View Suite the guests would move to that morning, but they declined preferring to stay in the Garden-View Room they occupied.

The total exclusive-guests space in our home, (guests-lounge and balcony area) is 320 square meters or 3,500 square foot, in addition there are the gardens and 12 meter swimming pool, that all guests may enjoy. So the problem was one of perception or expectation, not the actual size itself.

Having hosted 70,000 happy guests over our 19 year b&b-hosting career, we have to admit that we are addicted to the company of so many wonderful people.

This was a very unfortunate experience for both hosts and guests. When a guest is unable to show basic courtesy or respect towards the hosts what is the best solution for both parties? We (the hosts) were unable to satisfy the guests needs, and when the tense atmosphere spilled over to spoiling the peaceful enjoyment of our accommodations by the other guests, we thought it best that the guests check-out as soon as possible.

Late afternoon on their second day out of 3 nights booked, the guest told us that they will check out one day early. In reply I suggested that they could also check-out immediately, without charge. The guests happily obliged, and peace returned to our guest-house instantly.

As a side-note: B&B accommodations such as ours, "One home, 3 luxury guest-suites, two owner/hosts" are a social and safe environment which require a minimum level of social skills or preparedness by the guest to make minor adjustments towards the etiquette one expects in our culture. In New Zealand guests do not treat b&b owners like servants.

“Very welcome!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

Bart picked-up us on the airport. He was very gentle. The first day we arrived from Europe, they had no place for us, but Therese did take care of us and reservated a room in a hotel 100 metres walking. The stay (2 nights) at Ascot Parnell was very good and warm. Accomodation is wunderful in a good area. We got lot of nice tips for our trip in New Zeeland.
