This hostel was centrally located ......close to Queen Street and right next to the airport bus. Great place if you're just in Auckland to catch a flight or just arriving. Not much of a social vibe to the place. The rooms can be a bit cramped. Nice sized kitchen, but plenty of restaurants nearby.

I stayed here after staying at YHA City the week before. I liked International better. Bathrooms were better although still only a few per floor. Everything was just a bit newer and it is a little bit closer to Queen Street than City.

I stayed in an 8 bed dorm and it was clean and spacious enough. There were also wooden cabinets provided that you could lock with your own padlock.

Stayed in Auckland International YHA for a few nights in May 2011. The hostel location is off Queen Street, which is the main street of Auckland city. The staff are great - friendly and helpful. This is a rather large hostel with well equipped kitchen and plenty of seating areas. The nearest supermarket is about 20 minutes walk away. I was in a quad sharing dorm which has metal bunk beds that are creaky. The entire bunk bed was shaking when I was climbing up and down my bunk. There are two power outlets in the room. For some reason, there were always people making noise outside the hostel at night so this place is no good if you go to bed early. After midnight they disperse and it quiets down. The hostel uses key cards for door access which can get ruined if you place them near electronics or magnetic items (such as credit cards & ATM bank cards). This happened to me a few times because I kept my key card in my wallet and had to go to the reception to have my key card reprogrammed.

i have to say that although the place was clean it was a little run down but they were painting it when i was there. the room itself was a good size with a good sized bathroom attached but if you opened the windows the room stank of cooking food :( i cannot fault the staff especially FLORIAN who deserves special praise as he spent 2 1/2hrs with me and sorted out my whole trip whilst i was in new zealand he sorted the accommodation the coaches the ferry and the train journeys i took,everything and got me discount on most things as well! there was plenty of information in the reception on what you can do whilst in nz and the staff were more than happy to discuss options with you, i cannot say enough good things abt this place, only downside was the food smell.
