Despite the fantastic reviews, I fretted a little after booking Omahu Lodge once I realized it wasn't walking distance from downtown Auckland. If I had second-guessed myself and switched reservations, we would have missed out on a great place to stay and, more importantly, the chance to spend time with the unfailingly gracious and interesting Robyn and Ken Booth. Their dinner suggestions were great (Robyn even drove us to our restaurant one night so we wouldn't be late for our reservation and Ken dropped us off for shopping the morning of our departure because we were pressed for time before leaving for the airport). But the best part were our conversations over tea or breakfast (delicious, by the way), which gave us great insight into the country and its people ... And a gest appreciation of our hosts. The house was gorgeous, with endlessly interesting art work and memorabilia; beds and bathrooms fantastic, and the neighborhood was so charming. For those familiar with the SF Bay area, it was Auckland's
version of Piedmont. We loved Omahu Lodge.

I stayed here for my first two nights in New Zealand after having arrived from the US. I got there very early (0630 am), but the owners where expecting me and had arranged to have my room ready for an early check-in. They will do this for you if you let then know at the time of booking that this is what you need, AND if the room is available, they will hold if for your for a flat fee of NZ 100.
I used the supershuttle service to get me there from the airport. You can book with them on-line ahead of time at www.supershuttle.co.nz. It takes about 15 minutes or so to get there
from the airport.The lodge is in Renuera, a suburb of Auckland. About a 10 minute walk from the lodge is a bus stop that will take you downtown or to the Auckland museum. Also about a 10 minute walk are the Remuera shops, where you can find good restaurants.
Breakfast is included in the place. You fill out a slip in the evening letting Robyn and Ken know what you wish to have and at what time and it will made for you fresh in the morning.
The lodge has a pool and a hot tub. It was too cool while I was there to use the pool but I did use the hot tub and it was great!

Robyn and Ken made us so welcome. They were full of ideas of places to visit and views to see. Accommodation was superb, lovely big bed, immaculate furniture and bathroom. Thick white towels, bathrobes and slippers! Red and white wine and beer complimentary in the fridge. Even an adaptor in the plug socket ready for our use. Breakfast was fantastic and everything so fresh and hot. Would go back without question. Nicely situated outside of the city but easy to get to everything you need to. If you are in Auckland stay here or miss out!

My wife and I cruised from Sydney to Auckland over the Christmas and New Year. It was a fantastic trip which lasted 15 days (Silversea). We decided to stay 5 days in Auckland, before flying home, on the 10th January 2012.
Choosing a B and B can be a pretty hit and miss business. So, let me take the guesswork out of where to stay in Auckland.
Omahu lodge, no question! Robyn and Ken Booth are two of the lovliest people you could meet anywhere. The accomadation is superb, all the little touches like wine and beer in your fridge and lovely toiletries. Ken even bought me Guinness when he found out that was my tipple. A fantastic breakfast to start the day and Robyn and Ken would sit down with you to chat and give advice if asked.
Plus, just round the corner is a Thai resteraunt which is one of the best I have eaten in.
This is a special place run by two special people.
