“Secluded Romance”

I wanted somewhere special to spend a couple of days with my partner, and after researching, decided upon the Richardson. The reviews couldn't do the hotel, or Opus (the restaurant) justice. The attentive staff, the beautifully furnished incredibly spacious deluxe room, the quiet location all made the hotel perfect - we also enjoyed the privacy and the luxury of the spa treatments and pool.

As if that wasn't enough, the icing on a very impressive cake was the wonderful Opus restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel. We were stunned by every meal we ate there - from the Degustation Menu with wine, to breakfast, and a light afternoon lunch. The food, service and setting were amazing.

It all made for a very romantic, very special weekend.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms are wonderful - very generous balcony, bath and separate shower, small kitchen stoc...

“Top notch hotel”

My wife and I found this hotel to be a 5 star experience, it is classed as a boutique hotel having only 74 rooms which we found to be ideal, the service we received from each and every staff member was fantastic, we were even greeted at check in by the owner Joe, nice touch. It would appear also that the hotel attracts it's fair share of celebrities, the guest lounge is adorned with photo's of various members of staff posing with the rich and famous. It's the Richardson for me next time in Perth.

“Excellent hotel”

My wife and I spent few days at The Richardson just before Christmas. We found a friendly and helpful staff. The room was a suite big enough with a balcony. It was clean and comfortable. Coffee and a tea were present as complimentary. The pool is a bit small but cute, the fitness center seemed well equipped. The continental breakfast was sufficient and good but a quite expensive. The restaurant is very charming and the maitre suggested us superb dishes. Last the location... the hotel is not located in the center and it is a very pity but the public bus stop ( Red Cat, free of charge) is very near taking care that the service stops at 6:30pm. The fare for a taxi from center to hotel was about 10AUD not so expensive.
Overall great hotel. A greeting to all the staff.

Thank you Gianfi58 for your comments and I was glad to read that, overall you had an enjoyable stay. As mentioned in the previous review, Perth is a different layout to traditional cities and in many respects it's actually good that we are not located in the city centre. We have seen West Perth grow over the last few years and we anticipate this to continue. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next trip to Perth.

“Very good hotel in quiet location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

The Richardson is a bit of a curates egg of a hotel.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but there were drawbacks. First all of the positives. A fantastic room and excellent service (the concierge Ammy was especially good). The mini suite includes a kitchen, sitting area, large balcony and is very well appointed.

The Hotel has a lovely little spa with an indoor pool and small outside "garden" which gets the sun.

So what is the problem. Firstly it is in a part of West Perth that is dead. At 6pm everything around it is shut and the hotel itself is in a quiet business street. The free bus service (the red CAT) which has a stop very nearby goes into the centre of Perth but does not run late (it stopped at 6.30pm on Saturday). About 15 minutes walk away is Subiaco which has a very good restaurant (the Subianco Hotel) but for the first 12 minutes of the walk we saw not another living soul walking.

Secondly the breakfast. It was expensive, not that good and we had very poor service. I am told the restaurant is one of the best in Perth but when we were in the Hotel the restaurant was empty in the evenings.

There are not many good hotels in Perth. Those in Burswood have a worse position for the centre of Perth but at least have a bit life on site. They are however I am told not that good. Those in the centre are also modest.

Therefore I would stay at the Richardson again

Thank you mbgandco for your feedback and I was glad to read that you found the service and accommodations of a high standard. January is a quiet month for Perth (summer school holidays and many locals travel south to Margaret River or go abroad), enhanced by the low density of the city (800/sq mile versus, say, London of 13,000 sq mile) and decentralised layout (2,000 sq miles). One of the benefits of our area is being within easy reach of the pockets of activity (Rokeby Road in Subiaco, Beaufort Street in Mount Lawley, Oxford Street in Leederville etc,) whilst having a quiet location to retreat to. Thank you also for your feedback regarding breakfast which we are in the process of addressing. We will be opening a new casual dining restaurant later this year which will streamline service and will offer a good value experience. We hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back soon.

“Very relaxing”

My husband and I have just recently spent two days at the Richardson and it was beautiful. Two of the special ingredients was the excellent service, especially the ladies at reception and the charming German gentleman in the bar and the welcoming, happy atmosphere. The restaurant was lovely, haven't checked who the chef is but he is wonderful. However, I think our everlasting memory will be just how relaxing and peaceful our stay was and we are not too sure how they achieved that but gosh they do it well.
