“Good vacation gone bad”

A friend and I were traveling to Perth from Tokyo. Our flight was to get in early in the morning Australia time. Adelphi told me that check in time was noon but I specifically called and asked about early check in due to the circumstances. They agreed that was ok. My friend and I arrived there a little after 8am and nobody was around. We waited for over an hour before somebody finally showed up. When I told her that we were told that somebody would be there at 8am to let us in she really did not have anything to say. I asked what sort of compensation they were going to give us since they had agreed upon something and not came through. She took 80 AUD off my bill. When we got in our rooms they were ok rooms. Not worth the high price we were paying but as we had traveled all night we had no urge to argue.

The location is nice. Right next to the CAT bus stops with easy access into downtown Perth and the train station. I wouldn't stay there again.

“Not up to scratch”

Okay the 'hotel' wasn't up to much, it wasn't clean and was in serious need of some TLC. I was travelling alone and was avoiding hostels so for me it was cheap and private which was about as much as I could ask for. The kitchen wasn't well equipped but the fridge worked and the oven was ok. It isn't a particulaly quiet area and twice in two weeks there was fighting and scuffles outside my door, it was actually quite frightening.
On 2 occasions I was told NEVER to go out alone at night as there had been rapes in Kings Park (which is right above the Adelphi) and the suspect hadn't been caught...nice!!!
On the PLUS side the location is good and opposite the Swan river which is beautiful and has dolphins in it. The free city buses leave from right outside the front door and will take you anywhere you want to go (FOR FREE!!!) Take a visit to Rottnest Island and to Freemantle. I can also recommend the Pinnacles desert....very eerie and horse riding on the beach at Yanchep is a must.
If you are visiting Perth to explore then the hotel will be fine just don't expect too much!!!!

“unhappy”

I had booked two ensuiteapartments with fully equipped kitchens. When I arrived I was told that the apartments were not available and that they had other rooms which were not refurbished and that I would have these apartments at $80 per night. Now I did not know where else to go so I had to take theseapartments. My apartment needed its floor vacuumed and the handles on the shower taps came off at a touch there was also cigarette ash on the bathroom floor, it remained there for five days. I could not turn on the gas stove because the gas had been turned off elsewhere. I tried to use the mocrowave oven but there were not microwave dishes to use. So much for a fully equipped kitchen. It took over an hour to get assistance. The other apartmenet I had booked for travelling friends had a moldy ceiling and walls in the bathroom and cigraette ash and glass in the carpet. So much dor a 3.5 star apartment

“Avoid it !!”

Contrary to the images in the glossy brochure, our room looked like a substandard backpackers. The fridge was wrecked, paint was peeling off the ceiling of the shower (no fan), and sparks flew out of the power socket when the kettle was switched on and off. The stove didn't work and there was no microwave. All of the kitchen implements had been stolen and the beds were doubles, not queen as advertised (apparently the manager is unaware of the difference). There were also two bunk beds in the bedroom, but no ladder to access them. The TV was also absent. We protested vigorously and with the help of the extremely helpful lady at the Perth Tourist Lounge in Carillon City, we were offered a 'deluxe' room - which would have been 'standard' elsewhere - even though we had paid for that room on the basis of the advertising! In what could have been a scenario from Fawlty Towers, we were offered the chance to see the new room prior to moving in. However, the key didn't open the door. Returning to reception we found that they had forgotten to mention that the locks were being changed, but if we could locate the locksmith (!) we could get the replacement key. The locksmith was nowhere to be seen and so a cleaning lady with a master key showed us the room. I said that we would move in a couple of hours as I had to take my passport into the city to do some business - however, the lock on the original and replacment rooms had now been changed and we were locked out of both as the new master key couldn't be located, and neither could the manager. The manager was actually at a funeral. The poor girl on reception was in the first week of her new job - her first job - and was completely at sea. Eventually the problems were sorted, but we had still endured one night out of four in the awful room and received no apology or compensation from an apparently indifferent management - avoid this place if you want to enjoy your trip to Perth.
