Contrary to the images in the glossy brochure, our room looked like a substandard backpackers. The fridge was wrecked, paint was peeling off the ceiling of the shower (no fan), and sparks flew out of the power socket when the kettle was switched on and off. The stove didn't work and there was no microwave. All of the kitchen implements had been stolen and the beds were doubles, not queen as advertised (apparently the manager is unaware of the difference). There were also two bunk beds in the bedroom, but no ladder to access them. The TV was also absent. We protested vigorously and with the help of the extremely helpful lady at the Perth Tourist Lounge in Carillon City, we were offered a 'deluxe' room - which would have been 'standard' elsewhere - even though we had paid for that room on the basis of the advertising! In what could have been a scenario from Fawlty Towers, we were offered the chance to see the new room prior to moving in. However, the key didn't open the door. Returning to reception we found that they had forgotten to mention that the locks were being changed, but if we could locate the locksmith (!) we could get the replacement key. The locksmith was nowhere to be seen and so a cleaning lady with a master key showed us the room. I said that we would move in a couple of hours as I had to take my passport into the city to do some business - however, the lock on the original and replacment rooms had now been changed and we were locked out of both as the new master key couldn't be located, and neither could the manager. The manager was actually at a funeral. The poor girl on reception was in the first week of her new job - her first job - and was completely at sea. Eventually the problems were sorted, but we had still endured one night out of four in the awful room and received no apology or compensation from an apparently indifferent management - avoid this place if you want to enjoy your trip to Perth.
