“5* What a Joke”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The service is shocking. The restuarant staff cannot be bothered making sure diners are given the service you would expect. Slow and mediocre service. Staff do not bother checking the tables and seem very inexperienced. What a let down, shame on you Duxton management team for letting the standards slip so much. Overpriced food with bad service is not acceptable. Too many other nice places now so don't waste your time or money on the overated and poor performing Perth iconic Hotel that should be able to do a lot better for all it's fancy frills and shiny exterior. This place is froth and no substance. Expect to be let down like I was ..walked out angry and let down and the staff to whom I complained stared blankly.

“I thought this reasonable value and I would consider staying again. Good bathroom with quite nice amenities and large comfortabl”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

Accommodation always seems to a challenge in Perth now, with demand outstripping supply. I booked directly with the hotel and got a reasonable rate of $229 a night for room with king size bed.

I arrived earlier than the guaranteed check-in and though my room was not available they offered access to the fitness centre so that I could freshen up after my flight from Sydney.

The hotel was at full occupancy and the staff seemed to cope quite well. A late night room service snack of BLT was tasty and prompt.

The staff are not over polite, but they seemed to be working at full pelt. An example was asking the Concierge how long how he thought a taxi would take to arrive and he said it'll be here when it'll be here, or something to that effect! Fully understand the challenge of ordering taxis but I was just really asking for his judgement based on local knowledge.

However, a minor matter really and overall this was an easy and comfortable stay. I would recommend the Duxton for business travellers.

“Never going back...”

My partner and I usually stay at the Hyatt in Perth when we want a little time away and it is always wonderful there, we get everything we ask for and so much more and the staff are always lovely!
This time, because of room availability, we couldnt get into the Hyatt, but I had heard pretty good things about the Duxton before so we decided to try it out. We made out booking via wotif.com (we always book our hotels through their website) for a delux room with a king bed and free buffet breakfast.

The issues started the moment we walked into the hotel. We were met by the most unfriendly, unhappy looking staff who checked us in and took a $200 deposit from my credit card! $200!!! The Hyatt, which in retrospec is a far better hotel only takes a $50 deposit. I didnt make a big deal of it and paid anyway, hoping you get what you paid for. We also asked for an extended check out, something the Hyatt gives you for free until 4pm the next day, we were told they could give us until 12pm free of charge but any longer would cost an extra $150!

As we made out way up to our room on the 9th floor I was getting excited for a beautiful room with high up views of the Swan River. When get got into our room we found we had been allocated a tiny twin room, no king bed, cramped conditions... yuck! I called reception on the room phone and the receptionist, Sierra, was SO rude! She told us it was our fault, she had the confirmation in front of her and this is what we booked, there was nothing she could do about it and no king bed rooms were available. My partner checked the confirmaiton on his phone and he had proof that we had requested a king room!

We headed down to reception, but on the way we got stuck in the lifts for 15 minutes!! Its not that the lifts weren't moving, but due to renovations, the lifts went up and down to every floor and took 15mins to finally reach the lobby! When we got to reception the poe-faced duty manager changed out booking after much debate and us flat out telling them the Hyatt was better. We got the last king room available in the hotel even after they said there was nothing left.

The room we got was great. A big room, spa, city views (only from the first floor) and all the ammenities we felt we were promised.

In the morning, we had breakfast. Decent meal, decent food, not nearly as well presented as the Hyatt but it did what it said. Down side - any drinks not on self serve, you have to pay extra for (soft drinks, cappacino etc), again, something the Hyatt does for free if you book with a free buffett breakfast.

Overall, the Hyatt and the Duxton are both 5 star restaurants. If it were up to me, I would take a couple of those stars away from the Duxton for poor service, poor rooms, poor hotel overall!

Room Tip: Dont bother with a twin, the rooms are tiny! If you absolutely have to stay there, get a king!

“The staff just doesnt care”

Met at the reception with the worst welcome ever, I am an organized person and I have previously sent for a special request, which this hotel always met. I have previously rated the hote service as great but this time the receptionist was unbelievably terrible. Not only was she rude, the assistant manager actually came over to add on to the rudeness and terrible service. He not only admitted to the availability of my request, but he denied to provide it to me and my fellow colleagues checking in.
I believe in a customer service oriented business, the staff should seek every opportunity to meet the guest requests, and if this is not available then this is fine, but when it is available and met with rejection from the staff, the hotel should employ people with will to help.
Please do not go to this tired hotel, do not go to this tired service and staff, find yourself a different place to stay, there are plenty of hotels nearby willing to offer everything to make a guest happy.

Room Tip: Any other hotel is better than this one, staff are rude, plain rude, they just do not care what you...

“Good Hotel, nice staff and special weekend rate very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Liked the stay, rooms were a good size. TV a liitle small but did the job. I would stay again as the weekend special rate was good. The only down side was breakfast was a bit ordinary. Hot food wasn't overly flavorsome and cold selection including fruit a bit sparse.
